JAMES LOFTIS, IN BATES TOWNSHIP - BORN AND RAISED IN THE SECTION OF COUNTRY IN WHICH SHE DIED Mrs. Sarah Loftis, probably the oldest white woman in the state of South Carolina, died yesterday at the advanced age of 105 years. She lived with her son, Mr. James Loftis, in Bates Township, at whose home she breathed her last. Mrs. Loftis was born and raised among the mountains where she died. She was the Mother of six children, three of whom are still living. Her other children do not live in this immediate section of the country, but their exact residence could not be learned yesterday. "Aunt Sallie", as she was familiarly known, was a devoted member of the New Liberty Church. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock. According to a statement made by her son, who cited the ancient family Bible as his authority, Mrs. Loftis was born in the year 1806. A girl of six years of age when the "War of 1812" was waged. Mrs. Loftis could doubtless recall incidents in the history of the second struggle with England. Her husband, it is said, was killed in the Civil War.
