    3. I don't know but I'm trying to find out if there are family connections. James McDowell Richard "History of Greenville County, South Carolina" p.63 "Prior to 1824, when the Mansion House as built Captain David Long operated a resort hotel on the corner of Main and Washington Streets..." Since he was too young to fight in the Revolution, I wonder if he wasn't a captain in a local militia. As you may already know, the more affluent folks from the Low Country (coastal SC) would escape to the Up Country during the summers to try avoid the heat, humidity and disease. Greenville (then Pleasantburg) was built on a very pretty rise bordering the Reedy River. I do know that he was born in Massachusetts according to the census. I believe his tombstone at Springwood cemetery says he was born in East Sheffield, Mass in 1784. Are your Longs from the Carolinas? I will give the probate court a call tomorrow. Do you think your David Long might be related to the same Long family?
