After all he was in a cemetery with a tombstone, he'd married twice, and he gave a wedding for Lydia in their home! I've never heard of any Wm. Shelton/Sheltons in Surry Co. at all. I worked with a team of Shelton researchers for several years and we never found any Sheltons there nor were we concerned with the Surry Co. Sheltons. All of Williams children, and it is a long list, were either born in SC or NC. The other thing is the deeds with the Indians in the western part of the stateof NC.
