Her parents were Pettypoole cousins, Wade Hampton Pool and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Benson POOLE. I'm trying to prove the ancestry of Lizzie's grandmother, Mahala Springfield Newby Powell. (Mahala's daughter, Mary P., married DeMarcus Roland Pool, 1827-1889) Mahala's ancestry is unproven, although some say she may be the daughter of Dicey Langston Springfield. I've found nothing to substantiate this claim, except for a Poole family tradition. This record shows a Mahaly Springfield as a minor, in the same area, the same approximate timeframe and I suspect it may be my Mahala: ------------------------------------------------------ P. 344/DEED Book 4, Laurens County Item 50. 3/29/1813-3/10/1814. *Mary JONES* deposeth that on or about 3/13/1813, MARTHA SPRINGFIELD, very sick but in her right mind told her that she wished her puter dish and 2 puter basins & a post to be kept for her minor daughter Mahaly SPRINGFIELD. Also her cow & balance of her propt. to be kept for Mary Jones & her family to defray expense & trouble of keeping sd Martha in her last illness. Martha S. died 3/15/1813, 2nd day after above. If you see anything that rings a bell, please let me know. Thanks, Maureen -- mmeadpond@aol.com USGenWeb Project CC: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi
