We recently traced our Rice ancestors in southern Arkansas to Zenus. His daughter Temperance who married Benjamin Thomason was my gggrandmother. Her brother Vincent also had a daughter Temperance, who apparently went to Arkansas from Georgia at the same time. She, her sister and a brother were living beside her aunt Temperance Rice Thomason in the 1860 census in Arkansas, but no parents Vincent and Rachel listed then. We specifically looked for a Zenus Rice, because Temperance's sister Susanna Atkins named her son Zenus, and it is so unusual we figured it had to be a family name. Do you know where Traynum Cemetery is? Or where the boulder with Z.R. carved in it is located?
