My Ggrandfather, Lewis Davis, b. 1820, place unknown, married Mary Ann Amanda Gunter of Elbert County Ga. But no record of their marriage in Elbert. Found them living in Paulding Co. Ga. in 1850 before Polk County was formed. But suppect they were living in present Day Polk County near Al. line. Lewis and Mary Ann Amanda Gunter married bet. 1840-1844. Children were, John A.M.Davis, born 1845, James M. Davis, b. 1847, Salina D. Davis, b. 1853, and my grandfather William Jefferson Davis b. 1856. Lewis apparently died bet. 1856 and 1860. In 1860 census of Hall County Ga where Amanda's parent had moved she and children are living with her parents. My own father was named Coleman Bean Davis, born and raised in Cleburne Co. Al. where William had moved bet. 1883-1885. There may be part Cherokee indian in family at some point. Just cannot find siblings or parents of Lewis. Does any of this fit with your Davis Group?
