    1. Re: [SCGREENV] Thomas Long
    2. Hi Greta, At this point I really don't know enough to help anyone. I do know that on the 1800 Greenville census a William Long lived between Thomas Long Sr & Thomas Long, Jr.. Going by William's age he was probably a son of Thomas Long Sr.. George Long and Sarah Slover had a son Thomas who was my gggrandfather and he had a son John William. My Thomas named his children a lot of names that I feel were someone's surname, like Henderson, Hayden and Riley. George also had a son Tandy and I would be very interested in learning where that name came from. I feel it is an unusually name. I know nothing about the Slover family so some of these names could have come from there. It seems all of George's children were born in Greenville so am sure my brick wall is right there. Thanks for writing. Roberta Summers ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    2. This a family in which I am very interested, and you are the first person I have found who is researching them. My Greenville (later Anderson) Moores may be related to them. My ggg-grandfather Samuel Moore's will (written in 1828) was witnessed by George and Alfred Long and Brasher Henderson, who I believe was married to a Long. One of his sons was William Spencer Moore (my gg-grandfather), and one of the witnesses on his will was a W.B. Long (William Spencer Moore moved from Greenville to Anderson Co. in around 1836; he wrote his will in 1865 and died in 1871). Do you have any information on a connection of this family to the Moores? I would also be interested in how these Longs are related to one another. 3. Some records have been digitized and placed online in a joint venture between the court and the public library. My understanding is people with aol.com have difficulty viewing these images because of something within aol. Since I don't use aol, I am not sure what the issue is. You may access the website from the public library (which for some reason works better for me) or from the greenville county website. There are no marriage bonds as a rule. Marriage records were not required to be kept until 1911, although there are marriage records for Charleston going back to about 1870. Sources for marriages include church records, wills, estate proceedings, newspapers. Since you are on aol and may have difficulty, there is a Thomas Long listed in the Index to Estate Papers. The record is Apt 8, File 555 filed 1824 and contains a will. There is no mention of other papers but there may well be. Estate papers are often one of the best records in SC to establish family relationships. You may request copies from the Probate Court or from the South Carolina Archives. I am not sure of the cost at either. Suzanne C. 2. Hi All, I am new to the list and just started researching in Greenville County and I need some help. Where would I write looking for a Probate in Greenville County? I am trying to research Thomas Long and I believe he died somewhere between 1810 & 1820. Am trying to prove he was the father of George Long who married Sarah Slover. Also were there any marriage banns for around 1810 in the County? Any help you can give me I would really appreciate. Thanks. 2. These people are mine: # 53 - Caroline Robertson is Caroline Matilda McDowell Robertson w/o William W. Robertson. According to her son's (Mitchell King Robertson) death certificate she was born in Haywood County, NC. Her tombstone states she was b. 14 Oct 1810 and married 24 May 1829. To date I have not found parents for her. They are both buried in the Robertson / Howard cemetery on the intersection of Hwy 11 & 101. # 91 - L.J. Stewart is Louisa Jane Robertson Stewart w/o Alfred Anderson Stewart. She is the daughter of William and Caroline McDowell Robertson. She was born 25 July 1830 and died 19 October 1897. Alfred Anderson Stewart's parents are Burrell Jackson Stewart and Elizabeth Gosnell Stewart. Louisa Jane and A.A. Stewart are buried at Cross Plains Cemetery. Burrell & Elizabeth Stewart are buried at Glassy Mountain Cemetery. # 46 - Susan Calloway is probably Susan Elizabeth Robertson Calloway d/o Wm & Caroline, w/o John A. Calloway. According to the Greenville County, South Carolina 1860 Mortality Schedules: John Calloway - 34 / M / Married / b. SC / d. Aug. 1860 /School Teacher / Typhoid fever / ill for 33 days. He is buried at the Robertson / Howard cemetery. She then married Soloman T. Pitman . A few of their children left SC and went to TX. # 76 - Marinda Robertson - she is the w/o William Davis Robertson who was the s/o Wm & Caroline Robertson. 3. Just wondered if all the problems experienced by AOL users had been resolved - trying to open the records. Lee, you can move around in the pages without going page by page. Just type over the current page number with another number to go forward and backwards. For instance, at the top of the record page it says Page 1 of 595. Type over the number 1 and replace it with another number that you estimate will get you closer to the Surname you are searching. Say you are in the record for names E-G and the current page is number one and you want the name starting with G. Try typing in page 500. Then just keep adjusting the number until you get to the desired name. Hope this helps, Nancy
