    1. Re: [SCGREENV] Cemetery records
    2. Suzanne Matson
    3. Most cemeteries in Greenville County are either church or family cemeteries. Most of the large cemeteries are owned by corporations/funeral homes. The possible exception is Springwood-I don't know who owns it. There was a cemetery on county land but my understanding is they really don't know who was buried there. In short, there is no one in charge of cemetery records. The Greenville Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society has surveyed many of the cemeteries in Greenville County. Perhaps if you give us the name of the person you are searching for we can help. Suzanne C. 1. [SCGREENV] Photograph of old Temple Beth Israel & old Temple of Israel buildings in Greenville
    2. Julian H. Preisler
    3. Dear List Members: My name is Julian H. Preisler and I reside in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near Washington, DC. I am searching for a person who can take a color photograph of the exteriors of the two former Jewish temple buildings in Greenville. The former Temple Beth Israel is located at 307 Townes Street and the former Temple of Israel building is located at 115 Buist Avenue. I am researching American Synagogue Architecture and am in the process of creating an e-Book on the subject. Photo credit will be given to the photographer both in the research project and upon publication. If anyone can do this for me or knows of someone who is willing to assist, please do get in touch with me. Photographs can be digital (preferred), but I can also accept regular print photographs and can scan them into the database. I have photographs of most of the Jewish temples and synagogues in South Carolina including the current building of Beth Israel Temple in Greenville but would also like to include photos of the two former temple buildings from Greenville . I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from any of you. Sincerely, Mr. Julian H. Preisler 132 Harvard Court - Spring Mills Falling Waters, West Virginia jhp1963@yahoo.com

    1. [SCGREENV] NEW Cemetery Access Law
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Paul_M_Kankula Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.greenville/6483/mb.ashx Message Board Post: After 3.5 years of trying, the following S.65 Private Property Cemetery Access Bill initiated by Senator Larry Martin of Pickens County, Carlie Butts of N. Augusta and myself, it actually gets signed into law! It's not a perfect law, but it certainly is a big-step in the right direction. Relatives can now visit the graves of love ones located on private property, thanks to our efforts. ----------------------------------------------------------- View Bill S.65 at http://www.scstatehouse.net/sess117_2007-2008/bills/65.htm 29-Jun-2007 Mr. Kankula: Senator Martin asked me to let you know that the Governor signed Bill S.65 on June 27th. The Senator was pleased that it made it all the way through the process this time. Cindy Ledbetter Office of Senator Larry A. Martin (803) 212-6340 ----------------------------------------------------------- You may have not experienced this problem, but I assure you that it's not uncommon to have landowners wanting you to stay off their property..! It's also not uncommon for landowners to let their livestock desecrate a cemetery or simply over-plant the graves with crops and claim they didn't do it. To help document the location of all known cemeteries throughout the state, I'm in the final stages of completing a Cemetery GPS Mapping Project at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/southcarolina/sc-graves/sc-graves1.html. I hope that you will find this law to be of value and that you'll spread the word of its passing. Now if the following problem could only be solved... No SC government agency is maintaining a database for human remains that are moved due to road construction, lake forming, building construction, etc. As a result, no one can tell you where the graves of your love ones have been moved to after a few years. Unbelievable..! Regards, Paul M. You can check deeds in Register of Deeds and Wills in Probate Court. Then you will know if there is a reason to contact the archives or you can make a copy at the offices in Greenville, SC. n ---- Lee and Billie Jones <tjones@camden.net> wrote: > Regarding this message: > > > > Message: 1 > > Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2007 13:16:26 EDT > > From: KSum555@aol.com > > Subject: [SCGREENV] Deeds > > To: scgreenv@rootsweb.com > > Message-ID: <c3a.14a091e9.33aabaea@aol.com> > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > > > Hi All, > > Can anyone tell me where I need to write for copies of old Deeds in > > Greenville County?
