    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WilliamMiddleton51 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.greenville/6518/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John was my 6th great grandfather I have seen many websites and had many emails from people saying John Middleton Maury County Tn, Was the son of Richard IV Middleton. Babados line of Middletons But how could this be? DAR Records state that Richard IV Middleton did have a son named John, but he died in Chesterfield Dist. SC 1800. John Middleton of Maury county Tn, was in Greensville County Sc, in 1800.and in Maury County by 1820. There is a book by Marise Parrish Lightfoot called Let the Drums Roll: Veterans and Patriots of the Revolutionary War who Settled in Maury County, Tennessee. In her book she writes. John Middleton, Senior, b. between 1750 & 1760, Ireland and migrated to Greenville South Carolina before the Revolutionary War. He received payment for militia duty in South Carolina during the years 1779 and 1782. He executed his will on April 17, 1831, and died between that date and June 23, 1831, when the will was probated in Maury County, Tennessee. In his will he named his wife, Rebecca and two sons, Alfred and Drury. Also I have found more false information. There is a old family story about John being in Lee's legion in the Revolutionary War. I went to DAR with this and found out this not to be true, There was a John Middleton in lee's but he died way before my John Middleton did in Sc. So who was John Middleton 1760- 1831 Greenville county Sc- Maury County Tn,If you have any new Information to share please Email me at willun98@yahoo.com Erik Middleton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This John would not have been old enough to have been Mary Elizabeth's father, but could have been her brother? Does anyone have information on the Greenville Co., SC CALLAHAN family? I know from the family Bible that she was born in NC on 9 July 1906, and died in Rock Hill, SC on 13 November 1993. She was married to Thomas Clay Ashley (1902-1982) for awhile. It's my understanding that he left her after there 3rd child (around 1935). I have found the 1930 census where he name is spelled "Essie M Ashley", and her Social security Death Index, but that's it. I'm hoping to find out about her family... mom, dad, brothers, and sisters. She was in a nursing home after a stroke from around 1980 until 1993. Her only non-living son was Clyde Richard Ashley of GA. Any help would be great. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
