She was born in 1860, and married Henry Young Culbertson. They are on the 1880 SC census in Oaklawn twp in Greenville county. Mary's mother Isabella Martin is also living with them. I can't find Mary or Isabell after or before the 1880 census, and wondered of anyone might have info on what happened to them. I do know that Henry married again and moved to Ga. Author: melbaclark27 Surnames: Turner Classification: census Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.greenville/3888.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The 1840 census for Greenville District, SC is arranged as are some other counties and states. The names are roughly alphabetical, i.e. all the surnames beginning with "A" are on pages 197-199. "B" surnames are on pages 200 -208, etc. The "T" surnames are on pages 277-280. This makes it difficult to determine who were living near each other. -------------------------- On the same page with Berry and Esley [279], are Johnathan and Alfred. Five other Turners are listed on the page before them [278], with only two listed in the ancestry index. They are Armsted and Samuel, listed; with Sion, John and Sterling, unlisted. On page 277, another Jonathan is listed. On page 280, are Felix and William. -------------------------- On page 299, there is one more Turner listed - Joseph. At the end of the list on the last "Y" page [288], is written: "Look beyond Recapitualation Sheet additional names" The next image on ancestry is page 295. Pages 295-300 appear to be pages with those names which were apparently overlooked in the alphabetizing by the enumerator. Again, they are roughly alphabetized, with same letter surnames together, except for nine names at the end of this section, which has its own Recapitualation at the end of the listing on page 300. -------------------------- The 1830 census for Greenville District appears to be arranged the same way. Here are the Turners who are listed on Greenville South Carolina GenWeb. -------------------------- TURNER ---- pg 334 Felix, Pickens, William ---- pg 335 Alfred, Samuel ---- pg 336 Armsted, Berry, Clary, Eliza, John, Jonathan ---- pg 337 Joseph, Sion, Sterling -------------------------- Checking land records is often helpful in finding who lived near each other. ---- Hope this helps, Melba Clark Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But the Greenville Library has a very good Genealogy room. I can try to look it up next time I am there. I live about 30-45 mins away. But if I can't find anything I can ask my father in law. He is one of the editors at Greenville News, and see what he can come up with. It may be a while before I can get a chance to go up and research. Someone else that lives closer might be able to check at the library sooner than I can. Regina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I do remember going with my parents to the NCO Club. This was in late 1958 and early 59. I wonder if the building is still there ? Probably rebuilt by now. We didn't live on base. We lived out in the country, but I don't know the street. My dad was sent TDY to Germany and 5 days before he was to come back he was murdered, in a sabotaged cargo plane, in Turkey. It happened March 31, 1959. His name was Donald Brumm. I have always wondered if anyone else from Donaldson was on that airplane ? Would there be anything in the local newspaper ?
