    2. Thanks for the info, Tommy. Since I wrote that message, I've come a *long* way. :o) I still haven't gotten out to the cemetary (or gotten info on the g aunt's stage run); however, I've made contact with a cousin who will be showing me the cemetary soon. Considering the name and area, we have to be related! You can email me at thoseb4us@aol.com -- would love to hear from you. Thanks again!

    1. Re: [SCGREENV] 1776 massacre of the HIOTT and HAMPTON families
    2. According to the book "Greenville" by Archie Vernon Huff Jr., those killed were "Anthony and Elizabeth Hampton and the infant son of their daughter, Elizabeth Harrison.", also, the two children of Preston Hampton, on June 30,1776, On July 1, 1776, killed were Jacob Hite; his two daughters Susan and Eleanor disappeared, and his wife Frances was kidnapped, later found dead. John and Anne Armstrong are mentioned as having bought land in 1775 and Anne petitioned for the recovery of the 500 acres in Feb. 1784, along with the heirs of Jacob Hite, who submitted a claim for 61,000 acres of land that same month. Anne Armstrong was granted her 500 acres; Six Hite heirs received 6000 acres. It reads as if the Hites and Armstrongs were patriots during the Revolutionary War and were allowed to get their land back.

    1. [SCGREENV] Re: Holly/Hood
    2. My ancestor, Thomas HOOD b 1762 in VA, m Sarah MORGAN 6 Mar 1781 in Wilkes Co., NC. Resided in Pendleton Co., then Greenville Co., SC. Using the census records available, it appears he may have had a son Nipper b 1784/1785. According to census records available for Nipper, his two sons were b 1810-1820. I have tried to put this family together through census records and land records, I don't claim to be correct, but it looks pretty good. I show Thomas and Sarah also had a son, Thomas Jr., b abt 1783/84. According to those same census records, his oldest son was b abt 1794/1800, if he were born 1798 I guess at 14 he could have served in the War of 1812. That's a reach, but stranger things have happened. There is another Thomas HOOD, cousin to my Thomas. He was b in 1758 in/around Prince William Co., VA. After the RW he was in Pendleton Co., SC for 25 years before moving to White Co., TN. I know nothing more about his family, except that he may have had a son William. His RW pension application number is #S4379. I hope you're able to find your ancestor. I'll be most happy to share with you what I have collected, mostly through generous researchers! Let me know if I can help further.

    1. [SCGREENV] Take Action or Bad News for Genealogy- IMPORTANT
    2. Dolores DOBSON
    3. Please take the time today to write a letter to your Senators, your Representative, the President, the Vice-President and the Secretary of Human and Health Services. Addresses at the bottom of this e-mail..... This is so important to all genealogists! The rate increase will be effective July 1st, so we don't have much time! Please write today, it will only take a few minutes to compose a letter and send it off...... -------------------------------------------------------- Copied from a post to another list:                           I have just discovered that the SSA is raising the price by 286% for the most valuable tool that genealogists request, the SS-5 form, Original Application for SS Number...                         It is going up from its present $7 to $27, effective 1 July 2001.....                   Reference: <http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm#_Toc517745431> This is untenable, since many people who do genealogy are older retired folks on fixed income... and this large increase appears to be intended to discourage the public from access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act.                   How can it cost $27 to receive a request, then make and mail a copy of the one page document???   ...Government is not intended to be making a profit... The $7 seems high, when you actually evaluate the task...and Researching costs more...Could it be that they have some awfully high paid clerks...and/or interns...???                   Since anything can be proven by statistics, I don't believe their "analysis" but you might want to make your representatives in Congress aware of this... ---------------------------------------------- Senate Addresses   <http://www.senate.gov/> ---------------------------------------------- House Addresses   <http://www.house.gov/> ---------------------------------------------- President George W. Bush: <president@whitehouse.gov> ----------------------------------------------Vice President Dick Cheney: <vice.president@whitehouse.gov> ----------------------------------------------   Assistant-Secretary for HHS: <Sandra.Eubanks-Brown@hhs.gov> ---------------------------------------------- Notify all your Genealogical buddies, too??? We all need to write... ===================================
