    1. [SCGREENV] Re: John & Hannah Clayton
    2. Dolly, I'm working on the same Clayton line. I have a copy of an application to the DAR that has information about John Clayton's service in the Revolutionary War. I'll be happy to share. Have you been to the Polk County (Tennessee) Historical Society website? That's where these folks landed. The historical society November 2000 quarterly magazine was dedicated to the line of William Clayton (supposedly John Clayton's father, although I've seen him listed as James, too.) Hope this helps.

    1. [SCGREENV] Marriage Record Lookup
    2. Dear List Members, Could someone on the list, familiar with the old Marriage Record Books of Greenville County and the old Greenville District, tell me if a Marriage Record of... Beverly Cornelius to a Nancy Euphemia Smith ...is recorded in Greenville County/District in the early 1800's? What book and page number is this record located? If the record is known, how can one, living in Alabama, go about obtaining a copy of this marriage record? I would like to get the source information of this record (Book and page number) as well as a copy of this record. Any guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanking you in advance :) Robert C. Johnston, Jr. 139 Eagle Creek Drive Wetumpka, AL 36092 USA rcj@mindspring.com

    2. Billie
    3. on the Greenville census for 1790 is a John McAfee. I am looking for a John McAfee but he is shown alone and then in 1800 he is gone. there is also a Robert McAfee same time but he is on the 1800 census. My John went to Garrard co. KY. and is on the tax roll by 1797. I know that John married Sally, or Almira/Alvira, Reed in 1793... believe he would have done that in Greenville Dist. also but no records that far back. we have only that he came from NC but so did most others so that no help. Have never been able to find who his father was but would assume it to be John, James, George , Andrew or William as those names repeat themselvv es in every generation after John begins having children in KY. It is said in written family history that John was influenced by his Uncle who was traveling with Daniel Boone to move on to KY. Now if I knew who that Uncle was that would help. any help for me or is it a lost cause. billie mcafee harris...The Robert McAfee that is still around in 1800 would surly be related if I could have someone tell me who he was or his father etc.

    3. I use PAF now. It's FREE from LDS web site. I have used several others and like PAF best. I use a cheap scanner for old snapshots and it works great. Have not tried text scanning as yet. ----- Original Message ----- From: chetejohnson Sent: Monday, July 16, 2001 6:25 PM To: SCGREENV-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCGREENV] Seeking Application Information Can anybody suggest a Genealogy Application and scanner make and model? I've got a lot of information on paper but want to load into an application. Two that I have researched and are considering are Family Tree Maker and Master Genealogist. I'm leaning toward MG. I would like to someday publish my work and I've got a lot of pictures and documents to scan into the application. That brings me to my second question of a scanner... Looking at the Epson line. 1. [SCGREENV] Scanner and Genealogy software
    2. Kathi Jones-Hudson
    3. Perry: I'm a confirmed Family Tree Maker user. The differences between the programs are probably not that major. You should check out the individual sites for the programs and see if they have any evaluation programs you can download. Then you could try them out and see which one fits your needs. Most scanners attach to the port your printer lives on and the printer in turn attaches to the back of the scanner. I have used many different scanners (I'm a graphic artist by profession). The only one I hated was Visionier Paper Port. The resolution is what makes the scanner different from the next one. The higher it permits, the better your photo's will look. If you are scanning photographs you will need some sort of program to scan to, i.e., Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc. Lots of scanners come with an image editing program. Just make sure the one you buy does have something to scan to. Again, if you are going to scan text, and want it to remain as editable text rather than an image of text, you will need a program called OCR (optical character reader). Again, the scanner manufacturer might bundle such software with the scanner. That might be a determining factor on which scanner you buy. OCR has improved greatly over the years but is still not perfect. You have a certain amount of "cleaning up" to do after a text scan (removing strange characters, etc.). I am not 100% positive, but pretty sure that no genealogy program is going to let you scan documentation into it. You could scan into a word processor and then cut and paste.
