    1. [SCGREENV] Re: Crawford of Greenville County
    2. Hello Dan, My Stewart and Ford families came to Spartanburg co. SC from Amelia co. VA. before 1790. Edward Stewart married Mary (polly) Ford about 1787 in Amelia co. and followed her parents, William and Louisa Johnson Ford who were already in Spartanburg. Edward was the son of William Stewart and Mary --------? of Amelia co. William was believed to be the son of John Stewart s/o Daniel and Mary Bowman Stewart d/o Edward Bowman. William Ford born about 1840 is possibly the son of Hezekiah Ford and Elizabeth Clements but this is speculative. William died in 1817 near Duncan in Spartanburg co. SC. Louisa Johnson is believed to be the daughter of John Johnson and Elizabeth Ellyson also of Amelia co. Living in and near all these folks in Raleigh Parish, Amelia co. was David and John Crawford. who owned large tracks of land that was granted in 1736 and 1740. John also owned land in Nottaway parish. Amelia co. which later became Nottaway co. and joined that of Lunenburg. There was also a John Ford in Raleigh parish and Frederick and George Ford in Nottaway. If any of this helps I'm glad. I would be interested in Stephen Ford........James Stewart Lakewood, Ca.

Hezikiah Cockram was her security when a warrant was issued 2 Feb 1795. peggy > > James had land on Reedy fork ,santee river also had daughter susan, If this is the correct James ,he married Sarah Brashear, they came to Hardin/Hart Co.ky about 1810,he was on 1820 census, is this your James? they had Jonathan,Martha Anna, Hanna, Isabell,Sarah,Susan,Abner, Issac, James, William,Thomas, most of children were born Greenville,South Carolina.

    2. Hi Tricia, My paternal grandmother was Lillie Lee Grogan, b. 5/16/1882 and married James H. Dill b. 10/25/1880. I have been trying for so long to tie down Lillie Lee's parents. I remember grandma referring to her father as "Uncle Charley Grogan" who played the fiddle for barn dances a lot. I have no other information. Do you have any idea where to look? It would be so very appreciated.

    2. Britt & Wanda Franklin
    3. Through which child of Jepthah are you a descendant? You may have already told me, but I can't remember. I think there are some "Wood-Woods Exchange" periodicals in the D.A.R. library in Washington, D.C. You can't trust everything Leonardo Andrea wrote. He said there was a Snow family Bible also, but nobody else had ever heard of it, and some of the information he supposedly got from the family Bible was exceedingly wrong, as proved by other sources. Wanda Snow Franklin rwr@pipeline.com wrote: > > I am a descendant of Jepthah Washington WOOD and Elizabeth Ann GREER. While reading through the "Wood-Woods" file in the Leonardo Andrea Collection I came across "Bible Records of Jepthah Washington WOOD and Sarah Elizabeth (Greer) WOOD." However, as with my luck, there was no citation as to where the the information came from....just the family entries that were placed in the Bible. > > There was a notation that the information came from a periodical called the "Wood-Woods Exchange" however there was no citation. > > Does anyone know if this Bible exists, where it may be located, and whom I can contact? 3. Daniel, I am interested in this family as well as the Davis family. I have a cousin in Shelby NC, who is also working on the Crawford family. Her dates were 1824-1875. Her children were George Washington Davis, John W. Davis, Mary Elizabeth Davis, and William Dendy Davis. In one of his letters home during the war, George refers to Uncle John, whom I identify as the John Crawford living in Greenville County in the 1850s. I think it is likely that both John and Nancy were members of the Crawford family that lived in the lower-eastern part of the county. This probably includes Moses Crafford of 1790, and his possible sons Peter, Strother, Samuel , and Thomas. Moses was quite possibly the son of William Crawford who died in Culpepper Va. in 1779. His line includes the names Peter and Strother. This William may well have married a Strother. His father has been identified by some as William of Spotsylvania, but might well be the David Crawford who married Elizabeth Smith. These Crawford were yeomen/small planters, and except for Nancy and John, appear to have left the county largely by 1850. I expect her parents died young. I also suspect that she was the daughter of the Crawford-Ford marriage. Both John and Nancy were apparently literate. 2. I am trying to put together a speculative genealogy of the family of Nancy Crawford who married George Davis, then Murry Woodson. 2. The Hyatt Regency is downtown and it is very expensive, but very nice. You can go out Int. 385 and take the Haywood road exit and there are several real nice places to stay there. The library is downtown on College street, almost in the middle of town. You can take Academy around town and you will see it on the right. larry
