Maps and Driving Directions</A> Please look at this. I have been searching for 21 W. Bates street on many maps and I cannot find it. But this same site keeps coming up. It may Have been Bates at one time. It is now Beattie street. I have a map of every street in Greenville county. I cannot find it, and it doesn't come up on the searches I have made. I have studied the latest maps of the Greenville area and Sans Souci is not a part of the city of Greenville. The local mills were Poe, Woodside, Monaghan. Monaghan still operates at some capacity, maybe as storage or something. It is adjacent to Sans Souci community. There was never a mill at Sans Souci. However, Union Bleachery is in the community. It was textile, but didn't have the same structure as the other mills. It was also not into the same type of business as the cotton mills. They generally did dying and so forth only. Not the manufacturing of cloth and so forth that you find in the mill villges. My parents and us children lived in Sans Souci, Woodside, Monaghan, and Brandon at one time or another. I still have several relatives that live in the area. I get over there fairly often. I still live in the area. When I am over there I will look to see if it is there. When I am in the library I will look to see also. See ya, Larry

    2. San Souci was at one time the estate of Governor Richard Perry, and in 1905 became the Sans Souci Country Club, which later was moved to Augusta Street. New homes were constructed in the San Souci area in the 1920's in an effort to expand the city of Greenville. I think this is where the present day San Souci got its name but not sure. Susan

    3. If you can find a map of SC w/ an enlargement of Greenville, it will show you the exact location of Sans Souci. It is in the city and lies in the area betw/ Old Buncombe Rd. and Poinsett Hwy. (Hwy. 276). It would prob. help you just to see where it is. Godspeed... 3. Sans Souci is a residential area, but didn't it get it's name from a textile mill? I would have to ask my mother to be certain, but I think there was a Sans Souci Mill when I was a child, and like so many of them, it has closed, but the area still goes by that name. It is within the Greenville City limits. Hope this helps! 1. [SCGREENV] Seeking info on Sans Souci address
    2. In the 1930s, my father and uncle both reported on their SSA-5 application that they lived at 21 W. Bates St., Sans Souci, Greenville Co. I would like to determine if that address might have been a "single-family" home or a boarding house. Both men worked in the construction industry which often meant moving around constantly. Can anyone help me or direct me to a source for that kind of information? Any help will be appreciated.
