Her parents were Pettypoole cousins, Wade Hampton Pool and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Benson POOLE. I'm trying to prove the ancestry of Lizzie's grandmother, Mahala Springfield Newby Powell. (Mahala's daughter, Mary P., married DeMarcus Roland Pool, 1827-1889) Mahala's ancestry is unproven, although some say she may be the daughter of Dicey Langston Springfield. I've found nothing to substantiate this claim, except for a Poole family tradition. This record shows a Mahaly Springfield as a minor, in the same area, the same approximate timeframe and I suspect it may be my Mahala: ------------------------------------------------------ P. 344/DEED Book 4, Laurens County Item 50. 3/29/1813-3/10/1814. *Mary JONES* deposeth that on or about 3/13/1813, MARTHA SPRINGFIELD, very sick but in her right mind told her that she wished her puter dish and 2 puter basins & a post to be kept for her minor daughter Mahaly SPRINGFIELD. Also her cow & balance of her propt. to be kept for Mary Jones & her family to defray expense & trouble of keeping sd Martha in her last illness. Martha S. died 3/15/1813, 2nd day after above. Hi! i am trying to find out who Micajah jordan's father was. He lived in Greenville County in the 1830's.
Between the years 1800-1950. Just wanted to know about some history on this area. I was told that there used to be a website that had a lot of information on it. Thanks, Kim
Debbie, email me, I'd be interested in what updated information you have. I do have a John Lankford from GA, whom may have moved from SC. thanks, bob
Hi, I was hoping to find some information on the Jones family that would connect with Mary Jones. She married into the Jones family & her eldest son was named Thornton Jones (b. 1780's). Mary's husband Jones died (?) & she married James Brian ca. 1790's. James & Mary had children together, Thornton being a half brother to them. James & Mary lived in York Co., SC. Martha Brian
Hi, My husband's family of Brians lived SC. James Brian m. ca 1790's Mary Jones - one of her children from her previous marriage was Thornton Jones. He was Mary's eldest son b. ca. 1780's. I am trying to find Thornton Jones, son of Mary to get any clues on Mary's location prior to her marriage to James Brian. I doubt your Thornton is the correct age but wondered if you had any information on his family. Martha Brian
Hi, I thought all records went to Furman, not Bob Jones. Furman I believe was Southern Baptist and Bob Jones Independent Baptist. I maybe wrong. I have not seen any marriage records in the minutes of the Baptist churches that I have read. I also haven't seen the designation "Primitive Baptist" used in the time frame you mention. Occasionally, the minutes will mention a surname change for a woman inferring a marriage but giving no details-not even the given name of the groom. I have seen this most often in the late 1800's. Robert South Carolina didn't require marriage lic. until modern times. Check out Bill Storey & Anne K. McCuen, GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS FROM GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC: THE EARLIEST MINUTE BOOKS OF TEN BAPTIST CHURCHES 1794-1850. pub. 1992. I found no marriage records in these minutes for my ancestors. Early newspaper accounts are your best bet for marriage records, i.e. Brent Holcomb's books and Simpson & Barham, SOME SC MARRIAGES & OBITUARIES AND MSC. INFORMATION 1826-1854 ABSTRACTED FROM EARLY NEWSPAPERS THE GREENVILLE REPUBLICAN, THE GREENVILLE MOUNTAINEER, THE LAURENSVILLE HERALD, 1978. peggy Does anyone know anything abou the Primitive Baptist Churches that were located in the Greenville District between 1790 - 1810? What were the names of these churches and were any of them close to the Saluda River, especially near the North Fork of the Saluda River? > I'm trying to tract down the Primitive Baptist Church my ancestors attended > to see what records may be available during this time frame. Can you provide a little more information? What time frame are you looking at? Berea was absorbed by Greenville.
Dear List, Does anyone know anything abou the Primitive Baptist Churches that were located in the Greenville District between 1790 - 1810? What were the names of these churches and were any of them close to the Saluda River, especially near the North Fork of the Saluda River? I'm trying to tract down the Primitive Baptist Church my ancestors attended to see what records may be available during this time frame. I'm especially interested in any Marriage records these churches might have kept since Greenville County never recorded Marriages until the 20th century, what I'm told. Thanking you in advance, Robert C. Johnston, Jr. 139 Eagle Creek Drive Wetumpka, AL 36092 USA rcj@mindspring.com

Hello Bill, Thank you for answering my posting. I had been given some wrong information. My Hawkins gg grandfather was Harrison Brittain Hawkins from Burke County, N.C. who married Lucinda Stacy. This Hawkins line came to N.C. from Maryland. I believe yours came from Virginia. If you should ever need any info on this family, let me know. Again, thanks, Margaret
Bill: Would be more than happy to send you what I have. Joseph Carter Hawkins and wife Mary Ann were my ggggrandparents. We do not match in some areas. My information comes mainly from my great-grandmother's family bibles and other family papers that she had kept over the years. We don't show the same last name for Mary Ann, Joseph's wife, but that is understnadable as old writing was difficult to read. We also do not match 100% on children. I have nothing of Zion. Perhaps he was of the first marriage you refer to. All the children I have fall within the marriage dates of both spouses. I also list a third child for Joseph and Mary Ann. I can email you the information or if you have a fax I can do that as well. Would also like to see what information you have to share. Will look forward to hearing from you! Jean Miller
According to "Our Hawkins Cousins" by Delores Hawkins McDonald (1980), Ezekiel Hawkins, son of William Eaton Hawkins and his wife Catherine, was born in Greenville County, SC, June 18, 1789/90. Eekiel married Mary Hawkins about 1807 in Greenville, SC. Mary is thought to be the daughter of Benjamin Hawkins of Rutherford County, NC, but this has not been proved. Their seventh child was Alfred Madison Hawkins, born 3 June 1823. McDonald's book has considerable information about Ezekiel and his descendants. If it is not available to you, please contact me at thehawk@ptd.net.
Was William Franklin Hawkins a descendant of William Eaton Hawkins (c1750-1812) who was also a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church? I am interested in sharing information regarding all descendants of William Eaton Hawkins.
Do you know if this W. E. Hawkins is a descendant of William Eaton Hawkins (c1750-1812) who was also a member of the Reedy River Baptist Church? I am interested in sharing information regarding any descendants of William Eaton and Catherine Hawkins.
