    1. Re: [SCGREENV] Bramlett Family-Bethel UMC
    2. I have a history of Bethel UMC from a local book, which does tell of John Bramlett. According to the journal of Frances Asbury, he (Asbury) attended a meeting at John Bramlett's house in 1801, presumably for the purpose of starting a church. I also have a small history of the Methodist Circuit in this area which gives a history of Bethel UMC, and a cemetery survey given to me by the church. They have a small, very interesting musuem at the church. I believe one of these history's tells that as John Bramlett lay dying, a revival was going on at the church, which was fitting for the man who had contributed so much. If you will email me your mailing address, I'll be glad to copy what I have and send to you. Susan Finlay Susan17177@aol.com

She was survived by one brother H. M. There are many Hawkinses there that are all related I'm told. I have not been able to get beyond him. I also know that William and Henry are very common names in this Hawkins clan. I know all his children and much about his wife, my ggrandmother. I know that Wm. H.Hawkins' father's name was also William but I don't know his mother's name. It MAY have been Martha-but I got that from a census which had a child named the same as my Wm . So I don't know any names of William's siblings. I know he married in Greenville Co. Sometime afterward moved to TX and lived there until 1924, then moved to southwestern OK and stayed the rest of his life. If you come across anything, let me know. Judy

    2. Robert and Wla, I've been researching my JOHNSTON, YOUNG, and PARKER ancestors along the northern branches of the Saluda River in north Greenville District, SC for three years and I am sorry to report that there are only scattered reference works giving details of settlers in that region between the Revolutionary War and 1820. I would recommend you contact the staff of the Greenville Public Library who have been helpful to me through the mails. Please tell us the names of your respective ancestors and you might get lucky! Of course, if their names are JOHNSTON, JOHNSON, YOUNG, PARKER, NORRIS, or HUDSON, I will want to talk to you. My ancestors had nearly all moved on west by 1820. Bruce Nichols

    2. Dear list Members, Does anybody know if there has ever been any research projects conducted on old Plantations that were located along the northern forks of the Saluda River in the old District between the Rev. War and 1820 time frame? Has the local Historical Society or Historical Commission done such a project. If so, has the reports and findings ever been published? I've discovered in the Conveyance books, that my ancestors owned a plantation along the Saluda River and I'd like to know if the old homestead is still standing. 1. [SCGREENV] Courthouse Hours and Records Stored There
    2. Dear List Members, Could someone tell me a few things about the County Courthouse. I'll be in Greenville on the 21st and want to do some research there in during the timeframe of 1780 - 1820. Where is the Courthouse located in association to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville where I'll be all day? What are the hours of operation? Does the Courthouse still have all the original books from the 1780-1820 timeframe that would record a person's death and how their estate was handled (i.e. Probate Court Minutes, Inventories, Estate Books, or Loose Probate Files)? I want to collect all documents pertaining to a Surname of mine that may have died during the 1780-1820 timeframe before the family moved to Tennessee and Alabama. I have all their lands records as recorded in the Conveyance Books on microfilm at the library in Greenville from a previous trip, but I'm interested in Deaths and Estates of my family on this trip to Greenville. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Robert C. Johnston, Jr. 139 Eagle Creek Drive Wetumpka, AL 36092 USA rcj@mindspring.com

    2. Pat, Thanks for posting the information about the cemetery. I grew up in the Brandon Community in the 1940s and I don't remember anything about a cemetery. I plan to drive over that way and perhaps it will come back to me. The way I remember was that there were about 4 families of SMITHs at Brandon and none of us seemed to be related. My Dad always said there were more Smiths in the world than anything else and none of them would claim kin with the others. (Just kidding, of course.) It would be interesting to trace them back 'till they all did connect. I'm trying. 2. Help! Looking for someone with access to Greenville District land deed records for early 1800's. We are seeking a wife's name for Lawrence BROCK born 1789 in Greenville and died there in 1859, and his father's wife- father David Brock. Both Lawrence and David were large landholders and we are so hoping that a wife's name is listed on one of the deeds.
