    3. I am looking for info on HOLDER and WEAVER families that lived in the same area. They moved into the area by abt 1790, maybe a bit earlier. Desperately seeking parents of Lewis HOLDER, b. 1814, but there was an earlier Lewis HOLDER as well as Solomon, Jesse, etc. Also desperately seeking parents of Hester Elizabeth WEAVER, believed to be fr. the same area and possibly all or part Cherokee. Many thanks, Dolores Miller Pringle -----Original Message----- From: Mapmaker3@aol.com [mailto:Mapmaker3@aol.com] Sent: Monday, March 11, 2002 5:11 PM To: SCGREENV-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCGREENV] Re: North Greenville Co. Early Settlers Robert and Wla, I've been researching my JOHNSTON, YOUNG, and PARKER ancestors along the northern branches of the Saluda River in north Greenville District, SC for three years and I am sorry to report that there are only scattered reference works giving details of settlers in that region between the Revolutionary War and 1820. I would recommend you contact the staff of the Greenville Public Library who have been helpful to me through the mails. Please tell us the names of your respective ancestors and you might get lucky! Of course, if their names are JOHNSTON, JOHNSON, YOUNG, PARKER, NORRIS, or HUDSON, I will want to talk to you. My ancestors had nearly all moved on west by 1820. 1. Re: [SCGREENV] Fisher Couple d. 1891 and 1904
    2. HI Steph Cannot help you with the Fisher lines, but, do know that Gowensville Baptist Church is very much still in existence & an active church today. It is located near the intersections of Hwy 14 & another highway (cannot remember if is Hwy 11 or Hwy 101) but the church sits kind of up on a hill & is a beautiful & impressive building. I use to go there to sing at events when our churches combined activities (our choirs would sing @ their church & theirs @ ours & too, we would have Bible Sword Drills @ each other's churches, as well as our RAs (boys club) & GAs (girls club) would hold combined events at times. Thank you for bringing back some really special memories by mentioning Gowensville Baptist...those childhood years were some of the best of my life. I too, live out of state now & am (of course) much much older now so that is why it brought me such joy to remember those good times there... Sorry cannot help on the family lines. Usually the families got a family plot in church cemeteries & buried as many of their immediate family as possible there. That area where the church is located is part of the area where the Greenville & Spartanburg county lines kept changing for many years . Sometimes a place or a family would show up 1 year in Greenville County & then next year, same place/same family would show up listed in the Spartanburg info (as in census or directories). Too, if you go far enough back in studying the history, it will show up as being in NC, not SC. So, if you are really digging for many generations back, you might find some of your needed answers in NC history instead of SC. That state dividing line kept moving too for many many years & is still not far from this church you are asking of. Just thought would let you know so that if you are hitting brick walls, will give you another place to try to find the answers. Happy hunting & Walk in peace Pat

Her husband was b.1791 so she may have been born abt. that time also. The GOODLETTS were in Spartanburg Co. at one time, and she may have been from there. They named their children as follows: James Richard Benjamin Alston Caroline Cleveland Elizabeth Mary Ann (have no knowledge if there were others) Could her father have been James or Benjamin? Those don't seem to be GOODLETT names, or at least not the name of Richard's father. Anything at all is greatly appreciated! God bless, Dolores

    3. Just a hint here. Last summer, I found Vol. 2 through a search at http://www.Abebooks.com It was in a bookstore in Texas. It was in hardback, and I think it was $30.00 before shipping. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I live in the Greenville-Spartanburg area, and I couldn't find a copy here. I think the bookstore searches might yield something. It did for me! I think that the Greenville Genealogical Society has been thinking about reprinting Vol. 2 some time in the future, but I am not sure when. They do have several projects going right now. They are really good about keeping members posted regarding these. I will certainly be glad to let the List know, when I hear from them. Kelly Jane's suggestion is a good one too. It doesn't hurt to get these campaigns going folks!!
