Hello Greenville neighbors, Does anyone out there know about a William CHOICE who was in Greenville township, Greenville District in 1790 census and beyond. We think there is a tie between this family and the David BROCK family whose eldest son named his first son DAVID CHOICE BROCK. Any sharing would be appreciated. thanks, Dale Skysilver2000@cs.com SCGREENV-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: >Content-Type: text/plain > >SCGREENV-D Digest Volume 02 : Issue 82 > >Today's Topics: > #1 [SCGREENV] Re: CHAMBERS [juburg2000@yahoo.com] > #2 [SCGREENV] Re: LAFOY family in SC [jubu rg2000@yahoo.com] > #3 Re: [SCGREENV] Patience Powell [THart39626@aol.com] > >Administrivia: >To unsubscribe from SCGREENV-D, send a message to > > SCGREENV-D-request@rootsweb.com > >that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > >and no other text. They probably posted the NO Trespassing signs because of the land construction currently going on in that area. If I were you..I would call your local police department and ask them about this. Most likely no one will bother you if you walk on to the property for the purposes of transcribing the site. I have done this several times and have received permission from the local police department. Good luck. I hope you are able to get the names before the cemetery is plowed up by the construction. It is in horrible shape. You might want to take some Childrens sidewalk chalk with you. I had a similar gravesite that had a lot of dust from construction on it. Instead of scrubbing it with cloth to get all the dirt off I just ran it over with the chalk. It was easy to transcribe.

Yes she was residing in Greenville in 1880 as far as what I know. She is said to be buried in the Enoree? Baptist Church Cemetery. Could your Patience Elizabeth Powell above possibly have been a granddaughter of Rev. Stephen Powell (1786-1878)of Greenville (Stephen Powell was born in VA)? Rev. Powell was my gggg grandfather. His first wife was Patience Bomar (also born in VA). They were the parents of my ggg grandmother Martha Powell who married Benjamin Boling. Benjamin and Martha named one of their daughters Patience Elizabeth Boling. John Washington Boling, my gg grandfather and a son of Benjamin and Martha, named one of his daughters Patience. Rev. Stephen Powell and Patience had sons named Edward, William, and Thomas. Edward married Malinda Burns on Jan 15, 1839. William married Frances Dill on Mar. 30, 1839. Thomas married a Hawkins on Nov. 28, 1844. In Rev. Stephen Powell's old Bible, a Patience Powell is listed as being born on June 20, 1847. Check the 1850 Greenville census records to see if any of these sons had a daughter named Patience who might be the age of your Patience Elizabeth Powell. Brenda Roberts Shelton

"Elock" may be a misspelling of "Aleck", and there may be a family tie to the surname "Eleck/Aleck/Elock" since there is a Barbara ELOCKS living there. Notice one son named "Horey." This is an old SC surname spelled "Horry" fr. the French Huguenots, and Horry County is located on the northern coast of SC and may indicate that this family is either related to the Horry family or that they came from the area of Horry County. Note that Ervin GRICE and his parents were born in NC which may mean SE part of NC just across the line from Horry County. Hope this helps! Dolores

I wanted to spend some time doing research and enjoy the wonderful spring weather here. I decided to combine them both and went to Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery on the Corner of Pelham and Hwy 14. One thing led to another and I transcribed the whole cemetery that sits in front of the church across the street. Every last grave except for a small patch on the back left corner I will get some time this week. If any one needs some names looked up I will be more than happy to look them up for you. I am turning this into the Tombstone Project and am in the middle of typing this up. You can email me at Kimee129@yahoo.com. Thank you!

It is absolutely non harmful to the environment and will NOT damage the tombstone whatsover. I took a large round piece of colored sidewalk chalk (2inX6in) that I bought for $2.50 a bucket at Kmart and rubbed it over the face of the tombstone. I have you know...every single letter and number came immediately into focus. The chalk washes away after it rains or you can take a bottle of water and run it over the stone to get rid of it. No more putting paper over the stone and rubbing a pencil to get an etching. It also does wonderful for when you want to take pictures of the stone. Anyone else have any wonderful ideas they can share? I also recommend wearing an old pair of gardening gloves when you do the chalk. It tends to come of on your hands and clothes.
