    3. Hi Trish, I find your John Demarcus Burgress' middle name of Demarcus very interesting. My gggrandfather, veteran of the War between the States, name was Demarcus and he was from a very large extended family. Demarcus and his wife lived in Travelers Rest, Greenville cty, SC. They had 16 children. I just wondered if it was a family name in the family you mentioned? Surnames: PEARSON, ALVERSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UeB.2ACI/3871 Message Board Post: I am looking for any information regarding one of my great great grandmothers, Harriet Matilda PEARSON who married Jesse C. ALVERSON abt. 1859 probably in Greenville Co., SC. The following is what I do know, or at least think. Birth: abt 1832 Place: Probably SC Marriage: abt 1859 Place: Probably Greenville Co., SC Death: abt 1872 Buried: Washington Baptist Church Cemetery, Greenville Co., S.C. Parents: Likely the daughter of Sarah ??? The 1850 Census shows a household headed by a Sarah PEARSON, age 40, and containing the following persons: Mary, age 21; William, age 20; Harriet, age 18; Mourning, age 12; Jefferson, age 14; and James, age 2. Could Harriet Matilda’s father be a William PEARSON due to the oldest male named William? Could this William, (Harriet Matilda’s supposed father) be William, born Feb 10, 1800, son of Henry PEARSON, (ca.1771- Sept 5, 1852) and Ruth HOUSE, (ca. 1780 – Aug 15, 1825) ? I have not found much information in regards to this William, but this is the family I most strongly suspect as my Harriet Matilda’s ancestry. Other supporting evidence: Kyzer’s 1882 Greenville Co. map found at the Greenville, SC GenWeb, shows that sons Jeff (Jefferson) and William lived on Augusta Rd. within a few miles of each other in the heart of the same area that my ALVERSON ancestors lived. Jefferson, according to the 1860 census named one of his sons Henry. Was this perhaps after his grandfather Henry PEARSON? Jefferson married a Marilda ALVERSON and the two are found in the 1860 Fork Shoal, Greenville Co., SC and the 1870 and 1880 Oak lawn Twp., Greenville Co., SC census. Marilda was a sister to Jesse C ALVERSON who married Harriet Matilda PEARSON, sister to Jefferson PEARSON. This strongly supports the idea that my ALVERSON ancestors were closely associated with the PEARSON family. Of interest sake, it is also noted that a William PEARSON was found living in Spartanburg Co., 1850 census, age 61, married to Estha or Esther and the following children, Edy 24 or 34 F, Matilda 19 F, William P. 16 M, Jane 11 F, and W. J. 5 M. Other than Matilda being the right age and the name, I have no other evidence that this is our Harriet Matilda PEARSON. Any additional evidence or information very much appreciated

    2. I wanted to share what I think is a very underused site - Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) - go to the site and navigate it until you find the state you are looking for information on. There are volunteers listed from all states and numerous counties in each state. Some do obit lookups, census records , take pictures of tombstones. I have had enormous success on this site. The volunteers are just great! You may also think about volunteering to do the same in whatever area you live in. Please go take a look !
