Looking for any information concerning HULDAH RUSS and/or CAPT._________BRISSON. Story: Capt._____Brisson was a crewman on LaFayette's ship "Victorie" that brought LaFayette to Georgetown (by mistake) in 1777. Brisson met, courted, and wed one Huldah Russ, a local lady. We know they went back to his home country, France, and had a family. Their son, my ancestor, Anthony D Brisson, b. abt 1787, was born in France. In 1802, Huldah and a daughter (name ?)returned, as a widow, to the Georgetown District. I have a copy of a letter their son Anthony wrote to her from Waltham, Ma., Aug 30 1802. It was mailed to her % Mr John Russ, Barfields Hills, River Pee Dee, South Carolina. He was "staying with Mr.. L (in Waltham) where you left me". Supposition: They were living in France during the revolution there. Anthony was sent to Waltham for safety or an education. In 1802 Capt._______ Brisson had died, natural or otherwise, and Hudah and the daughter had returned to her father's or brother's home at Barfields Hills. Later, Anthony ended up in Bladen County, NC, and married Comfort Hester, a Bladen County local. He was a large land owner and they a large family. I am a descendant via my paternal grandmother, Minnie Helen Brisson Butler. We are very interested in details of Capt.______ Brisson. When and where were they married? What was his given name? Was John Russ Huldah's father or brother. (John Russ was listed in the 1790 Georgetown District census). Where was (is) Barfields Hills? I have reams of Brisson information...ready to share. Thanks to all...especially for this new Georgetown District rootsweb site. Robert McLemore (Bob) Butler..Fuquay Varina, NC. email: rmbnc@worldnet.att.net or rmbnc@juno.com
