    1. MYERS family in Georgetown, SC
    2. Ken Wang
    3. Hi, I've just subscribed two nanoseconds ago, I hope it's OK to post already. I'm looking for a Robert P. MYERS born in Geogetown SC late 1700s and his wife Henrietta b 1799 in SC somewhere, possibly Georgetown. Their eight children were born in Savannah GA according to the 1850 GA census. The Myerses may have been Jewish but I'm not sure. Other names I have seen in this connection are Mordecai MYERS, Jacob MYERS, and also MORDECAI and MINIS surnames. Then my sister tells me about some newspaper account (which she has promised to send me but hasn't yet!!) about a terrrific storm in September of 1822 that a Dr. Robert MYERS was killed in...don't know if this is Robert P. or not. Ahh, so confusing. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Nancy Myers Wang kmhnwang@tkd.att.ne.jp

    1. Re: SCGEORGE - New Year Roll Call
    2. Hi Donna, All of a sudden I'm getting postings. I didn't know if i was truly subscribed or not. Is this as a result of your "roll call"? Glad you prompted them. I submitted a posting a few days ago and am presuming it went through(?). I live in Boston and find it difficult, at best, to conduct my Georgetown research from afar. I have to tell you that I was browsing around the Georgetown County web site a few days ago and clicked on "other links of interest" (or something to that effect), and wandered upon a Georgetown inn - DuPre House - on Prince St. that I believe to be the house my grandmother grew up in. So I emailed them with my interest (along with an in-the-making itinerary to Georgetown) and received a call today from the owner; I absolutely cannot wait to make a visit to Gtown. It sounds like there are so many people (still) there that have been there an eternity, I feel there's a potential wealth of information waiting for me. I do so hope I can get there in the spring and do the house tour(s). Anyway, just wanted you to know how happy I am you started this list group. All the best for 1999, Kerry Wood

    3. Calling ALL List Members! Since it is a New Year and we now have a total of 72 members, I feel that it is time to do a Roll Call. Why don't we all identify ourselves and list the ancestors that we are tracing. PLEASE CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE to reflect your family names. Give us siblings, spouses, dates, etc. if you have them (or just a list of surnames). This should help us all find new cousins and perhaps that "Brick Wall" ancestor. So LURKERS and NEWBIES - come out of that closet and don't be shy cause I'm declaring this a flame free zone. If by chance someone forgets to change the subject line or forgets to erase the entire digest - let's show them some slack. 1. Elisha SCREVEN ( early 1700s)
    2. Hello: I am interested in any information regarding Elisha SCREVEN, son of William SCREVEN, who was a Baptist preacher. I understand that Elisha helped found the city of Georgetown and was married to a daughter of Samuel COMMANDER. (I can't recall if it was Hannah or Elizabeth, and the files are not here with me). There are several connections between the SCREVEN, COMMANDER, FOWLER, BROCKINGTON, and NESMITH families of this area. I have bits and pieces regarding these families that I will share. Sincerely, Fran Richardson Lexington, SC

These two are my "brick walls" literally :). I have Lydia listed in the 1850 Census of Georgetown County. I also have that W.J. B. had sisters, Hannah and Mary. I would appreciate any help with these lines. I will be glad to share what information I have on these families and several others in Williamsburg/ Georgetown area. 1. TAYLOR and KAMINSKI House
    2. New Years Greetings from Boston, I do not think I have posted to this list yet. I have been researching primarily 2 lines in Georgetown: CONGDON and TAYLOR (also HUCKS, LOHR, and deMICHEL). Here is my brick wall: Dr. John Edward TAYLOR, oral surgeon from Georgetown and Columbia, (b. appx 1880) married my grandmother's mother, Ruby May CONGDON on 6/25/03 in Prince George Winyah Church in Georgetown. My grandmother, May Congdon Taylor, was born 6/25/04 (and died this past August at age 94.) The marriage ended in divorce and I have been able to find nothing on TAYLOR. Was supposedly from a prominent family (Georgetown or Columbia, not sure). A HUCKS cousin I recently located in Georgetown sent me an excerpt from "Georgetown Houselore" by Julian Stevenson Bolick - pub. 1944. It mentions 3 historic houses lived in by the Congdon family, one of which is the KAMINSKI HOUSE which, it says, "is known to be one of the oldest houses in Georgetown. Before the War Between the States, the Congdon family occupied the place and during the War the Daggett family lived there. In the early 1900's, the property was purchased by Mr. W.W. TAYLOR, who lived here many years. It was then purchased by a Mr. Fosdick, a wealthy Nortrhern man. During the depression in the thirties the Fosdicks sold the place to Mr. Harold Kaminski..." I am aware there is a Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown, which I presume to be the same house. Can anyone offer me some direction as to how I might pursue the Taylor (and Congdon) connection with the Kaminski House? I may be grasping at straws, but finding a written connection between Congdon and Taylor in Georgetown has given me a little renewed hope. Any input would be most gratefully appreciated.
