Jeff, You are preaching to the choir. We know how bad things have gotten. That's why we have asked for assistance (and have in previous years, too). We appreciate the effort, and you've done a great job with the page designs. I wish we could start over and you could want to know us as people and as volunteers. We are not perfect, and we all have lives outside the USGenWeb Project, but we have been here holding things together as best we could for a long time. Respectful two-way communication is the only way we will dig out of this and be a strong project again. We are hopeful that it can happen. However I need to say a few things. I started with the USGW in 1996 and I still maintain that original county. I have personally built probably more then fifty counties and about 6 states give or take a few counties. I have done hundreds of graphics for these counties and even other counties & states that I never CC'd. I won't even begin to mention money spent, my wife would absolutely kill me! I was asked to assist in helping South Carolina rebuild. I first reviewed the whole state website and every county all 45 I believe is the correct number. Several counties were in good condition, I won't name names, most had not been touched in years as long ago as 2006. One county was completely down, several with graphics not loading and I lost track of sites with non functioning links. In total 25 of 45 counties were either not loading, adoptable or had CC's that deserted. Worst I have ever seen, in my years of service to the Project. I do know that I have tried several times over the years to become a CC in the SCGenWeb never once receiving a reply. The counties that my family lived in while in SC are currently being CC'd by Paul. I'll let Paul attest to my discussions/emails with him in the last couple of weeks, if he so wishes. And so everything is crystal clear I purchased the domain name www.scgenweb.org and used my own hosting account to begin repairing SCGenWeb, this was done before my learning/reviewing the sad shape South Carolina was in. I also know from experience that the folks who volunteer and become CC's and never update their sites or ones that just like to have their name on a website or the ones that just like to have power are the ones that holler and complain the most when transformation takes place. These are also the ones a true managing State Coordinator has to every so often remind them that their website needs attention. These are usually the first to cause division and try to assume control also. I did not get involved to make a name for myself. I believe I have done that already and my work and time and money proves that! I did not get involved with SCGenWeb because I need more States or Counties to manage, the Good Lord knows I have enough. Nor do I do if for power, my wife only allows me to have so much of that. I was asked by a good, honest, hard working friend and member of this project for help. I already have 30 plus hours in the project not to mention a couple bucks. I have adopted two counties that I have zero connections too. I was going to do three but a mistake was made regarding that one and that mistake was corrected ASAP. However not until I had spent 10 hours redoing the county. So from my stand point if you want to remain with the same State project you had then you'll continue to listen to the same old song and that is your choice! However if you want something better for the SCGenWeb the you'll need to assist Denise in her choices. I understand the need. Certainly, every state needs bylaws, and we should see a proposal, hammer it out, and have a vote. It's always good to have other perspectives, and those of us who are active in several states may have an idea of what has and hasn't worked. It's difficult with a handful of coordinators, but we wouldn't be here if we weren't dedicated. Disheartened and weary, but dedicated. Janet, we know that you always have been responsive. I think it was a HUGE mistake, considering all of us who have up to date membership information. I am really sorry this happened. Janet, Jeff, like you and I is human and subject to making errors, as WE ALL are. I seriously doubt it was a deliberate attempt to wrest your site from you. Also since he, like me was NOT a recipient of this lists posts, so in all likelihood he had no way of knowing you had posted on this list. Also Denise also is subject to making errors like all other humans and could have overlooked a post on the list or forgotten to add you to her list. They have appologized and agreed to link your site back up. I have worked with Denise and Jeff for years and this is definately NOT something either would do deliberately. So in the best interest of SCGenWeb, won't you please reconsider your decision or at least thik about it for a day or two? Most hastily made decisions I have made in the heat of things, I have usually regretted the next day. So please think about it for 24 or 48 hours before making your decision? In my capacity as National Coordinator, I am stepping back into this and will be the acting SC until everything gets straightened out. Rootsweb is more than willing to work with me, just as they have with me on MNGenWeb. Rootsweb is attempting to contact Victoria and will keep me apprised of their results. We have been in touch a couple of times today, and we have to address this situation in the right way. It doesn't appear that SCGenWeb has enough CCs to call for Victoria's removal at this point in time and I am the only person that Rootsweb will turn over the sites to. If Victoria does not appear and take care of SCGenWeb appropriately, it will take me moving this forward so that all that do want to retain their counties can get the assistance that they need. I've been working with MNGenWeb and it is moving forward nicely given the sad shape it was in. I can do the same thing for SCGenWeb and get new CCs moving into SC so it will grow and make visits more enjoyable for researchers. Once that is done and in place, the state can have a proper election and hopefully have at a minimum 2-3 people from whom to choose their new SC. Thanks for your patience as we move through this process. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. This is a problem. We all make mistakes and I believe that Jeff needs to relink Spartanburg county back to Janet Moore's site. She has been responsive in the past as well. If you look at the October 2014 mailing list responses, Janet Moore did respond there as being active. I am sure that Denise and Jeff just missed this and would never just take over a county "just because." So, if Jeff could relink to Janet's webpage and remove his, that would solve the problem. Thank you very much. We are now in the process of putting together a new temporary state page that will go online as soon as it is feasible, especially if Victoria decides to remove the current state page. If you are a CC in SC and would like to retain your county, please let me know. My goal is to keep as many CCs with their counties as possible. I do know that several CCs have resigned or just disappeared. I will keep you apprised as we move forward in getting SCGenWeb back into the swing and get it moving forward again. Please forward to me your response to my inquiry about the county. I'm not in the habit of replacing CCs who respond to me. Thanks.
