Fellow Rooters, James Aiken was a member of the Provincial Congress, Charleston, S.C., from the parish of St. Thomas and St. Denis in 1775. It appears that he then returned to Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland. This is a matter of more than a little dispute, as a grave for him exists in the Martin-McDowell Cemetery in Fairfield Co., SC. James and Elizabeth Reid Aiken came to America with a group of Protestant Irish immigrants leaving County Antrim, Ireland - the others being the Laws, the McClintocks, and the Martins. They settled in the Little River Section of then Fairfield District, South Carolina. Any connections? Please let me know.
