My HUGE brick walls 1. Searching first of all for any family in Fairfield County that has a girl named Susan/Susannah born in 1789. She is my third g'grandmother and married Dorrel Ford, son of William Gardner Ford and Magdalen Love of the same County. 2. Other family lines in Fairfield County: a) parents of John Brown (he married Nancy Magdalen Ford) and immigrated to Alabama in 1830s. b) Parents of William Gardner Ford, Nathaniel Ford, Elizabeth Ford, and Keziah Martha Ford and Hezekiah Ford, all settled in Fairfield County by the time of the American Revolution. c) Davison family in Fairfield County in the American Rrevolution d) All descendants of Jacob and Isaac Love -- same time frame. My surnames in this area are: Freeman (Fairfield, Richland, Kershaw) Mobley / Moberly (Fairfield) Fletcher (Camden District) Cheryl Freeman cheryl@genattic.com
Kay, I would like to compare notes with you on your Rodgers of Fairfield District, SC. My earliest Ro(d)gers was John Rogers. He was probably born ca 1725 but I don't know where he was born. He was in Amelia Co., SC in 1750 when his son Joseph (my gggg grandfather) was born. I don't know exactly when he came to Fairfield District but he died there in 1790, leaving a will. The children named in the will were: Joseph, William, Henry, Thomas, Richard, James, Mary Jane, and Frances. I know quite a bit about Joseph and some about William, Henry, and Frances. One of the books about Fairfield County said the Rogers came to the area around 1758. Several of these Rogers children married Mobley's. HI, I'm researching: McConnell, Blair, Murray, Dukes Kat
These families were in SC in the early 1800's and moved into AL. Carol
My main line of research is the Clarke family centered in Winnsboro, Charleston and Columbia. My husband and I visited Winnsboro last fall and received a great deal of information from the Archivist of the local historical society. For example: lists of those buried in the Zion Presbyterian Cemetery did not include 2 of his direct ancestors but the Archivist has a collection of obituaries, developed by a team of volunteers combing through newspaper archives, and we found confirmation of the burials there. One of our brick walls is Robert Clarke b. 1773 who went to Charleston from St. Mary's, MD. He was reportedly a merchant. Brother of Caleb Clarke, Solicitor and uncle to Dr. Caleb Clarke. Would appreciate and info on him.
Hello, All~ My SC family lines are: Beall Broom Jones McKnight Neal Rodgers I am primarily interested at this point in identifying the surname of Jane, wife of Charles Broom, b. 1730, and any other information available on either of them. I have a great deal of information on their descendents but have very little on these two. I recognize several of the surnames posted this morning from my database but will have to look them up tonight. Thanks, Kay
My MONTEITH ancestor is Eliza Denoon MONTEITH born 1788 in Scotland. She married Alexander KIRK (born 1785 in Scotland). I don't know when they came to US..........if it was with their parents as youngsters, or after they wed. But Eliza Denoon MONTEITH and husband Alexander KIRK had three known children: 1- Mary Bryce KIRK b 1823 married Charles HOAGLAND in South Carolina 2- Charles KIRK b 1830 married Martha -?- 3- Jane KIRK b 1832 Much more to learn here. OOPS......sorry........Hit Send before I wrote. May Miller Ligon would PROBABLY not be on SSDI. But I don't have a bir thdate or even the year. That is a very good question John. I wish I knew more about these PERRY folks. Seems that many families from the East migrated to and settled in Texas. Here is what I do know: Reuben PERRY was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia we think. He was a carpenter by trade. Apparently he either traveled for his work, or moved to the Raleigh NC area. In the 1830's he was half of the contracting team of Perry & Ligon of Raleigh NC who built the Charlotte (NC) Mint in the 1830's. This team was Reuben PERRY and son-in-law Thomas Perkinson LIGON. We know that Reuben PERRY had three daughters.....Susan M. (born circa 1814, died in Raleigh 1833), Lucy Ann and Frances Elizabeth. I would guess that there were sons too, but lack of information prevents me from knowing more about this family. Son-in-law Thomas Perkinson LIGON was also apparently born in Prince Edward County, Virginia but came to live in the Winnsboro, SC area where he died in 1874. Hello Arlene! I am seeking information on a May MILLER. She married Hayward Marvin LIGON on Dec 22, 1914. They had no children. Heyward died in 1925 and is buried at Greenbrier Methodist cemetery near Winnsboro, but I have no information on May.....her dates, parents, burial, etc. One relative speculates that May went to Atlanta GA and probably died there. I think all genealogy groups take breathers every now and then, but I agree that we should post our surnames to get some talking going on here again! From the Fairfield and Chester county area I am searching for: Anderson, Beauchamp, Curlee, Douglas, Haynes, Hoagland, Jackson, Kirk, Ligon, Monteith, Perry, Phillips and Richardson (and others) Hope to find more cousins and info! Yes, I agree, this IS the quietest list I've ever subscribed to. I would like to hear from folks researching ancestors who lived in the section of Fairfield county that was given to Richland after 1850. Probably the Blythewood area. My gg grandfather was Meredith Duke. Although I can place him in FF county in 1821-22, I have not been able to ascertain his parents. He had migrated to Marion county GA by 1840. Am also interested in Ensley Duke, who apparently grew up in the Aaron Duke household, and is listed in Aaron's household in 1850 census. The household consisted of Ensley, his wife Mary, who is said to have been Mary Curtain Outing.......probably Outen..Wooton, Hooten?, their children, and an elderly Aaron Duke. Ensley was most certainly not Aaron's child, and I suspect he may have been my gg grandfather's son? Ensley was listed in the Richland census in 1870, his wife having probably died in childbirth in the late 1860's.......then he disappears, tho I have found all of his children, except the ones who seemingly never left SC. The rest went to LA via MS and TX. I can't think why this list is so quiet, either.
