William BROOM (b 1752 in NC, d 1826 Fairfield District, SC) m Amy Naomi -?-. Attempting to identify maiden name and parentage for this wife. Amy Naomi -?- BROOM had a sister Jemimia BELL who migrated to Lawrence Co., MS., where she owned property. In 1823 Jemimia BELL made a deed of gift of this property to her nephew, John BROOM, presumably when she was preparing to return to SC. Jemimia BELL is named in the will of her brother-in-law William BROOM. Was BELL a maiden or married name for Jemimia? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thank you. Susan- This has been hanging around in my inbox forever, waiting for me to have time to look for some information since I recognized the name. The Dansbys sold land to William Bell on two occasions - 2 March 1815 (William M. Bell here) (Fairfield Deeds, Book X, p. 73) and 24 September 1815 (Fairfield Deeds, Book X, p. 308-310 / p. 309 missing from book). This second deed was made from Hickman County, TN, so there may be a complete copy in the TN archives. Then on 24 December 1817 when Winza Dansby sells two slaves to Charles Dansby and William Pearson there is a Charles Bell who signs the deed on 13 April 1818 as the acting Justice of the Peace. The Dansbys bought and sold enough land to qualify as speculators and these are the only instances of the names I find in my records for SC. I don't have TN, GA and AL organized well enough to find non-Dansby names in that information yet, but have a vague recollection of seeing the name on something else. They seem to have moved west/south in groups with many of the same names repeating in each new state. Anyway, maybe your link is a Charles senior since the JP date I have is before your Charles was born. Good luck. Cynthia A. I am looking for any information on John Mills born ca 1732 Ireland and died 9 Nov 1815 Chester Co, SC. He is buried in the Fishing Creek Cemetery. In his will, John Mills made a bequest to " . . . John Wilson Son of my Daughter Mary Wilson decd. . ." He also appointed William Wilson as one of his executors and left $10 to William Wilson's son, Grant Wilson. The information I have is from the book "Samuel Kelso/Kelsey and Allied Families". I am looking for any information that ties this Wilson family to John Mills. My ancestor, John M.K. Wilson (b ca 1790 SC - died 1835 Dallas Co, AL) was also in Chester Co, SC and the death of his one year old son (1816) was reported in the Fishing Creek Church Records. A John M. K. Wilson also sold land in Fairfield County, SC, in 1817 which had originally been granted to John Mills. It appears that my ancestor, John M.K. Wilson, is the grandson of John Mills but need help in finding further documentation. Thanks so much, Susie Lee

Hello All, I'm inquiring for any information about the surname Jefferson in or around Fairfield Co. Thanks, Rick
I'm looking for info on a Nancy COOPER who married "a Mr. WISE" probably in Fairfield Co, SC....or possibly around Autauga Co, AL. The only approximate date I have for her marriage is sometime after 1823....so, in the 1820's or 1830's. Obviously, I need a LOT of help on this, so ANY leads would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!! *********************************** Please visit Rockett's Genealogy Web selected as a Recommended Site by The History Channel http://www.kayrockett.com and also Rockett's Genealogy Books http://www.kayrockett.com/genbooks.htm. I live in TX, but get to SC every other year for a family reunion that is held in Winnsboro (The Gladney Family Reunion). The Fairfield Museum in Winnsboro has a genealogy reference room with a great deal of info. There is a book that lists all of the cemeteries in Fairfield and Chester counties, plats them (their locations), and lists the tombstones from the cemetery. There is probably a copy in the museum. However, you'd need to write for the info. They are only open one day a week, and then only for five hours. No paid staff, volunteers only. But they respond to all letters and do a very good search of their materials. Then they copy and mail you results of their search. They do not charge for this service, but accept donations of any amount. I have used the cemetery book mentioned above, but don't remember if it was in the museum reseach room or the Public Library in Winnsboro. Mailing address is: Fairfield County Museum Genealogy Dept 231 Congress St Winnsboro, SC 29180 BTW, the Old Brick Church is a historical building and has been written about in several publications in the area. You shouldn't have much trouble getting good info on the church and its members. Happy Hunting! Julie

Thanks, Debbie listowner >Subject: Querie about the Bell family I am searching for a connection in Fairfield District. I have traced my lineage back to Charles Edward Bell, born in Fairfield District, March 23, 1828 - Jan. 18, 1893. I am unsure of who his parents are but I suspect he is a descendent of William Bell (1775-1845) and Eliza Bell (ca 1799-Sept. 21, 1854). Could this family possibly be from Fairfield Co. also as i believe the area i am researching is in the southeast corner of Chester Co. and maybe Fairfield also. Daniel McCullough (Born 1771-1780) 1840 Census of Chester District SC Daniel - 60 & under 70 Male - Age 5 & under 10 (Son, Daniel or David* would have been 10 years old) *Clearly Daniel in a Tippah Co., Ms. deed; however, clearly David on the 1850 Tippah Co., Ms. Census. Female - Age 5 & under 10 - (Daughter Sarah L. Would have to been ca 7 years old) Female - Age 10 & under 15 - (Daughter Margaret Harriet. Would have been ca 15 based on two other census. Difference could be to the month taken) Female - Age 10 & under 15 - ( Daughter Cynthia. Would have been ca 13) Female - Age 10 & under 50 - ( Wife Harriet. Born ca 1793) Using the lowest age range of 60 for Daniel McCulllogh, Sr. and the highest age range of 15 for a child; Daniel McCullough, Sr. would have begun his family around age 45. Question: due to the age of Daniel McCullogh, Sr. and the ages of the children and wife, did he have a previous wife and other children in Chester Co., S.C. or elsewhere (FairField Co.)? Does anyone have ANY info on the subject names found in the 1790 census? I'm wondering if the Fairfield Co Peter COOPER is the same one also found in Charleston, SC in 1790 and later settled in Autauga Co, AL. I'm also wondering if Adam was Peter's father. Thank you for any input. *********************************** Please visit Rockett's Genealogy Web selected as a Recommended Site by The History Channel http://www.kayrockett.com and also Rockett's Genealogy Books http://www.kayrockett.com/genbooks.htm. The Nevitts are part of my family. What is the date of birth of Permela Brooks Nevitte? I have a Brooks Nevitt,b 12-11-1830 who married a Perry D. Moore and moved to North Carolina. Her father was Cornelius Quincy Nevitt, brother of William Miles Nevitt, Jr. I'm sure that she belongs to this family. They were the only Nevitts around. Two of Brook's siblings married Crosbys of Fairfield Co. Joseph K. Nevitt married Margaret Crosby, and Frances Nevitt married Stephen Crosby. My family line follows William Miles Nevitt, Jr and his children. The Crosbys also married into my direct line. I'd like to try to figure out where Permela belongs in the family tree. Susan Clark Johanson
The name Nevitt/Nevitte was familiar to me, and I checked and found a Permela Brooks Nevitte who married Lawson Withers. their daughter was Laura Ann Withers who married LeRoy Fee, who is buried in the old Feaster Coleman Cemetery in Fairfield Co., S.C. I have no information on the parents of Permela Nevitte. Sincerely, Victoria A. Pickrell (VABrannon)
