Does anyone have information on the Anna Coleman mentioned in the will of Hezekiah Ford, deceased November, 1838 in Tabot County, GA? Hezekiah was the son of Nathaniel Ford, Sr., also mentioned in the will: "... Eighth- I give and bequeath unto Anna Coleman, wife of Joseph Coleman of Fairfield District ..." Tony Cox

LaRue, I'm looking for William Lewis who was born in Fairfield County ca. 1819. His wife's name was Hulda and she was born in Fairfield County ca. 1824. Their children who were born in Fairfield County were Moses, Bynum, Chesley and John. There were other children, but I'm not sure if they were born in Fairfield County. LaRue -- I would appreciate your checking to see if McMaster has anything on the NICHOLSON family. Peter Clough NICHOLSON and his brother, Samuel Wylie NICHOLSON, both attended Furman when it was located in Winnsboro, so I am hoping he might have something on them. Good morning, Gene. Have you traced your surnames, BARKLEY and GLADDEN back to family in Stafford, Prince William, or Fairfax Counties, VA in the 1700s? Is Mary the wife, or mother, of your BARKLEY line? Did she inherit 200 acres of land in Fayette County, KY from her father, John O'DANIEL of Fairfax, VA in his LW&T of 1798? In the will, she is named as "Mary BRAKLEY", possible BARKLEY?. Birth bef 1782? Marriage date Bef 1798. That is all I know of her, however her family had numerous members who migrated to SC, areas later in Kershaw, Chester, Richland, Edgefield, Barnwell, Bamberg, Orangeburg, Lexington, Saluda, Greenville, and Aiken starting about 1754. SC records of this family are found as DANIEL, DANIELL, and O'DANIEL. The O'DANIELs and GLADDINs were closely associated in VA in the 1740s and 50s. John GLADDIN, d. 1749 Fairfax, VA, was John O'DANIEL's step-father. I would very much like to exchange information on these families, or any other related lines. Please pardon the multiple List postings. I have obtained a copy of Fitz Hugh McMaster's book "The History of Fairfield County." The McMaster book has a unique countywide census conducted in 1829. It only gives the name of a head of household and the total free, white inhabitants of that household. There are good listings of Civil War participants from the County and a chapter on early residents, schools, etc. However, the book is not indexed, so please be patient when waiting for a lookup. I also have "The Fords of Fairfield County" by Sidney Tatom (she concentrates on the Nathaniel Ford line - others are mentioned peripherally; I'm from Nathaniel's brother's line, that of William Gardner Ford). I have Buford Chappell's book "The Chappell Family in Early South Carolina," concerning the Chappells in Fairfield County and their Virginia origins. In addition, I have the reprint of Mill's Atlas which has a map of Fairfield County that dates back to 1820. Let me know if I can help you. LaRue LaRue Foster lfoster@earthlink.net

MOBLEY, COLEMAN Queries: Does anyone have any documentary evidence as to the names of the parents of the Robert Coleman who died in Fairfield Co. about 1796? What Mobley was Cloey (Chloe) Coleman, daughter of Robert Coleman, married to? Does anyone have any information on the Thomas CARTER, who was involved in a transaction with Isaiah Mobley on 8 Oct 1807 (Thomas Carter sold Isaiah Mobley 200 acres on Beaver for the sum of $1000 with the stipulation that if he, Thomas Carter, paid Isaiah Mobley the sum of $500 within 3 years the transaction would be void. Witnesses: Robert Mobley, Clement Mobley, John Mobley.) Does anyone have a Sibella (Sibby, Sibbie) in their family tree? I am trying to discover her maiden name. She would have been of marriageable age and living in Fairfield by about 1774, at least. Probably born between 1740 and 1760. A Happy New Year to all! Carol
Laughridge/Lockridge/Loughridge/Lothridge in and around Fairfield before and around 1800. Families with which associated and/or intermarried: McCreight, McKnight, Aiken, Gladden, Arlege/Aldridge, Becket, Seale, Barkley. Gene Laughridge
This is my second attempt to post my surnames for roll call. The names I am researching in Fairfield county are Martin, Fleming and, perhaps, Berry. Thanks, L Mayberry

Dorothy, I notice you list both Duke(s) and Wootan surnames. I've noticed from the records that, in addition to Aaron and Moses Duke, there was Aaron and Moses Wootan, older than the former brothers, but living in the same area of SC at about the same time. Are you aware of any connection between them? My lines are Duke(s), Burge, and Ford with some interest in Abbott, Jones, Foster, and Brazil, all prior to 1830. My worst 'brickwall' is Moses Duke of Kershaw, b.abt. 1780, SC, d. abt 1841, MS. He married abt. 1801, SC to Nancy Burge. Hi, All, Names of interest to me are as follows: Macon Powell Brunson Bradford Singleton Ashford Harrison Woodward Austin Alston Dickey David Kennon Eppes/Epps Hamlin/Hamblen Hartwell McGraw Gaither Cantey Mellette Nettles These surnames are associated with Fairfield Co.(1789 - 1840's), but have roots back to Va. and NC and migrate forward to Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. Some of these families stayed in SC, but mine headed west. Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a safe and prosperous New Year. Drive carefully! Hope we have some matches! Patricia Nowlin San Diego, Ca. (but a Native Texan)
2nd attempt to post this: DUBARD (orig. DUBBERT) John Frederick d. 1781 Charleston William Catherine Philip Godfrey Elizabeth Peter ELLISOR: Chaney / Cheney Jacob David Adam Gasper Philip Samuel John George Daniel --Linda
My surnames in Fairfield County are: McConnell, Blair, Murray, Dukes, Aiken, Lowe, Seymour, Yarborough, Marion, Perry. 1790 to present Kathleen McConnell Dundas
I am looking rather doggedly to connect Meredith Duke b circa 1800(I believe to Aaron Duke and Peggy Faust) in Fairfield SC. He witnessed a deed with Aaron in 1822. Others named were Samuel Duke and James Craig. Am also interested in any info on a Mary Curtin Outing, said to be the wife of an Ensley Aaron Duke raised in the household of the above Aaron Duke (son of Robert Duke), but probably not his son. so, I guess my surnames are: Duke/Dukes/Faust/Outing/Ooten/Hooten/Wooten. Also interested in the siblings of Aaron Duke, especially Rachel, who married Peter Crim and followed her family to Shelby County AL by 1840. My Meredith evidently married Elizabeth Frances White in Shelby County for it is where she and her family lived, her father dying there in 1840. It's like I know exactly what happened when, but the proof eludes me. May everybody's walls come tumbling down! Dorothy Duke Rhodes
My Fairfield County surnames are: Porter (Charles M., 1807-1882) -- m. Sarah GRISSOM, Emily McCANTS and Eliz. CASON) Some associated names are: Dunlap, Robinson, Feaster, Coleman, HIGGINS. (These are the spouses of Charles' M.'s children) Glenna
I'm researching the Samuel Davison family in the 1750s and later -- spouse's name unknown; children included Mary, believed to be the wife of Robert Love, Rebekah, who married a man named Gullies (?), and William. Samuel's estate account was found in Robert Love's estate file with payments made to the husband of Rebekah, the unnamed spouse, and the son William as late as 1787. Any connections? The Fairfield names I am researching are FREEMAN and MOBLEY / MOBERLY. Chery Freeman cheryl@genattic.com
