    3. Hi Everyone, I went to a book signing the other night for the book "WILD ROSE" by Ann Blackman. The book is about Rose O'Neale Greenhowe the Yankee turned Confederate spy. If you get a chance read this. Wonderful!! While there we had several of our Confederate Organizations present with a lot of info to look thru. One of them I want to pass on to all of you. Now on line are the "Wilmington, NC Confederate Hospital Records" transcribed by Bob Cooke. This was funded by the Old New Hanover Genealogical Society, Cape Fear Civil War Round Table, Oakdale Cemetery & Friends of the New Hanover County, Wilmington, NC Public Library. This is in Adobe Format and is about 195 pages long - I believe over 2800 names. There are a lot of Confederate Boys from many different states and units listed. It also is alphabetical. If they had the info it lists where they are from & their unit along with their diagnosis and dates in the hospital. Wilmington was a very large hospital for the Confederate wounded. I am having this printed out and making 2 reference books to bring to Paulding Co for the Library and Museum. 1. Swann, Robinson
    2. I have a puzzle for you problem-solvers out there. In the will of Jane Swan (Swann) written 1851 and probated 1853, she leaves property to son Samuel with the proviso that her daughters Martha and Sarah are to live with him. She also asks that Savilla live with her daughters. The will is witnessed by A. Robinson, J.M. Robinson and her son James Swan Jr. Executor is John Simonton. There is no slave named Savilla in the will. I don't know Jane's maiden name but assume Robinson is a possibility. The only Savilla found in the 1850 census is Mrs. R.G. Cameron and their daughter Savilla. This Swan family married with McKeown, Miller, Hardin, Pannell and possibly McBride. Does anyone out there have any ideas on who Savilla might have been? Thanks, Anita

    1. GABRIEL RAWLS
    2. Bobby Rawls
    3. Hello all researchers, I am looking for info. on The Rev. GABRIEL RAWLS. Gabriel was born circa 1720-30 most likely in NANSEMOND Co., VA. and died about the 27th of Dec 1819 in CATAHOULA Parish, LA. He is found in the Vestry book UPPER PARISH NANSEMOND CO., VA. in 1759 owning land that had belonged to the orphans of LUKE RAWLS who died about 1752-1754. LUKE had patented this land in 1747 and WILLIAM RAWLS was listed with him, I think WILLIAM RAWLES was LUKE'S father, when GABRIEL RAWLS land was processioned JOHN RAWLS was his neighbor. Next I find GABRIEL RAWLS in JOHNSTON CO., NC as Security on a deed in 1761 for JOHN FORSTER then a 1770 entry for a lawsuit involving CHARLES GILMORE with BENJAMIN EXUM atty for GILMORE. Then I find GABRIEL listed in CRAVEN CO., SC. When JOB BASS had a land plat for 100 acres in 1771 for 100 acres, he sold this land to GABRIEL RAWLS on APRIL 7, 1772. JOB BASS would years later sell SILAS RAWLS 75 acres in SUMNER CO., TN. in 1799. GABRIEL RAWLS and LUKE RAWLS had connecting land next to WILLIAM SANDERS in CRAVEN CO., SC. in 1772 and GABRIEL RAWLS was mentioned in a plat for DAVID HAY in 1775 with other neighbors being WILLIAM SANDERS and WILLIAM STROTHER. GABRIEL RAWLS had a grant for 100 acres in CRAVEN CO., SC. in 1775 and then patents for 200, 472, 375 acres in following years. this land would later be in RICHLAND CO., SC. GABRIEL RAWLS is listed in the estate papers of FREDERICK FREEMAN in 1782 which mentions twenty-five mile meeting house. GABRIEL is then listed on the 1790 census of RICHLAND CO., SC. With several others listed in various records with my RAWLS including HARMON DASH, SR. who served with SILAS RAWLS, SR. in the Revolutionary war. This HARMON DASH, SR. built the coffin and hauled the corpse to the grave of JOHN RAWLS in 1819 who was a son of GABRIEL. This was in CATAHOULA PARISH, LOUISIANA. Others listed on the 1790 census that are associated with my RAWLS were JACOB BOOKTER, GASPER FOOST {FAUST}, HERMAN KINSALOE {KINSLER}, JOHN GEIGER, HARMAN DASH, FREDERICK ANSMINGAR, SAMUEL MILES, LEWIS COON, JACOB MOAK, JOB BASS, ANDREW SANDERS, WILLIAM SANDERS, ANDREW DOMINY. GABRIEL RAWLS and wife ELIZABETH sold some of their land in 1796 to SAMUEL INGRAM, This is when GABRIEL, LUKE and SHADRACH RAWLS moved to ROBERTSON CO., TENNESSEE. I Will pick up here in my next e-mail. thanks BOBBY RAWLS BIG SPRING, TEXAS

    2. Joe, the only new lead I have is the fact that Burrell Taylor Duke, son of Enoch Duke (known son of Lewis Duke) named a son Lewis Parham Duke. I think someday we will find that Robert Duke, father of Thomas, Moses, Aaron, etc., was a brother to Robert Duke...and that they connect back to the Virginia Duke line that includes Green Duke (I believe?) who married a Parham. Still havent made the trip to the Alabama Archives to search Perry County AL records, yet. 3. Hi, Joe and Dorothy. Do your DUKE lines include a DUKE who married cir 1780, Martha HENDRICK, d/o William & Mary Byrd HENDRICK? Martha m2. Samuel STANLEY cir 1805. Martha, d. 1817, & Samuel, d. 1818, are buried in the Stanley Plot of the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Martha may be related to the Charles O. DUKE who was an heir or representative of Robert HENDRICK's estate, settled February 7, 1829, and/or Thomas Wells DUKE, possibly Martha's son, also buried in the Stanley plot. 1. DUKE and DOUGHERTY, and unknown +others!
    2. thehornguy
    3. Hello, all. Thomas DUKE married Mary DOUGHERTY in Fairfield Dist./County, in ca. 1765-'70, or later. Thomas was b. in Fairfield Dist., but the birth-place of Mary DOUGHERTY is not yet discovered. Who were Mary's parents? Parents of Thomas were Robert DUKE and his wife, Nancy, last name unknown. Who were the parents of Nancy?? Father of Robert DUKE is a man not yet identified, although several 'theories' seem to be under study, at this time. And, not knowing who his father was, it is also not known who was his mother. The purpose of this post is to seek new info on these persons, and the parents of each, if anyone can help in that effort. Your kind assitance is most appreciated!! Thanks. Moon Of Gainesville, Ga. "Peter Vonder Burg and his brother Valentine or Walter came to America on the Ship "The Thistle", John Wilson Com., Sept 19, 1738. Walter Von Der Burgh settled in the north and Peter migrated south. When the family arrived in South Carolina (as early as 1760) the name was Funderburgh. "Thunderburgh" is given as another spelling and later in South Carolina "Funderburk" was used. (some of these early facts are incorrect, here) mb Peter Vonderburgh is said to have been the father of Henry Funderburgh, born ?, died 1792, Fairfield County, S. C. He married Mary ?, born ? and died circa 1810 in Fairfield Co., S. C.; Anthony Funderburgh md. Rebecca...; and Tebald. Funderburgh, born ?, died ? Henry Funderburgh came to South Carolina where he served in the Cherokee War under Richard Richardson. Other men from the Camden Dist. of Craven were Edward and Clement Mobley, Peter and Wm. Hill. He received a land grant of 100 acres near the mouth of Beaver Creek near Broad River, Dec. 5th, 1764. In his will he left land "granted to Henry Funderburg 5th day of June, 1786." U. S. Census of 1790 - Fairfield Dist., S. C. Henry Funderburg 1 male over 16 years 1 male under 16 (g-son?) 1 female 4 slaves The children of Henry and Mary Funderburg were: (incomplete list mb) I. John Funderburgh, md. ? died and left orphans. II. Mary Funderburgh - married Thomas Mobley. III. ? Funderburgh - daughter md. Daniel Mabry. Grandchildren of Henry and Mary Funderburgh (John's Children?) (1) Henry Funderburgh - md. Nancy Mobley. (2) Dorcas Funderburgh - md. Richard Hill.( my family, mb) "Guardians Bond for Henry Funderburgh, orphan; Box 2, folio 1, Fairfield County Records. (S.C.) "I have received from the executors of Henry Funderburg, deceased, for the use of Henry Funderburg, orphan of John Funderburg, the sum of 27 pounds, etc. /signed/ Richard Hill - Guardian for the said Orphan." No date but between 1795-1800. Dorcas married Richard Hill (page 59) and was born circa 1775. Since Richard Hill was the guardian of Henry Funderburg, it is speculated that Dorcas and Henry were brother and sister. The Fairfield County Court records state: "Mrs. Fundeburk was grandmother of Richard Hill's wife, ...Mrs. Funderburk was a very aged woman in 1809." Mary Funderburg daughter of Henry and Mary Funderburg md. Capt. Thomas Mobley (born ? died circa 1807.) (see pages 206-7) 269. HILL & HILL-MOBERLY CONNECTIONS OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S. C. Henry and Mary Funderburgh evidently had a daughter that married Daniel Mabry. He was an executor to the Wills of both Henry and Mary Funderburgh. Her will mentions Henry and Ephraim Mabry, as grandsons. The following gift deed tends to confirm the above. Deed Book A page 273. Sept. 13, 1786. "Henry and Mary Funderburgh ... Gift deed to son ... Daniel Mabry....100 acres on Beaver Creek originally granted to Henry Funderburgh June 3, 1763." Wit: Anderson Thomas, James Thomas and Adam Pool. Mary Chapman is shown in the Mary Funderburgh will as her grand-daughter. She may have married William Chapman. He was one of the executors of Mary Funderburgh's estate. (note: her grand-daughter Dorcas Hill could have been a Mabry, or as stated, dau. of John Funderburg.) III. ANTHONY FUNDERBURGH, son of Peter Vonderburgh, married Rebecca ?. Children: Racheal Funderburk, b. Jan. 29, 1762, d. July 26, 1836, Walton Co., Ga. Married Dec. 24, 1779, Peter Cronic, Rev. War Veteran. Issue: A. John Cronic (records are incomplete) B.
