The following obit appeared in The State, Columbia, SC Oct 27, 2006: LEXINGTON - William Meadors Minick, of 104 Kwanzan Drive, Lexington, formerly of Kinards, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Minick was born May 1, 1922, in Saluda County, a son of the late Olin W. and Inez Shaw Minick. He was an Army veteran of WWII having served with the 83rd Inf. Div. in the European Theatre, five major Campaigns and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for Action against the Enemy in the ETO. He retired from the S.C. National Guard with the rank of Major. He was an alumnus of Newberry College and a retired businessman and tax accountant. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda and a former member and Elder of Little River Dominick Presbyterian Church. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 24, member of the 40 & 8, member and past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member and executive board member of the 83rd Inf. Div. Association, member and secretary of the Newberry Co. Review and Appeals Board since it's inception in 1969, member of the National Guard Association of South Carolina and the United States and a member of the Saluda Lions Club. He was twice married, first to the late Mildred Wallenzine Minick and second to Grace Prater Minick of Lexington. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Brenda Frazier and husband, Rhett, of Newberry, Elaine Comwell and her husband, Woody, of Dalton, GA, and Sandra Minick and Bob Brooks of Columbia; a son, T. Wayne Minick of Columbia; two sisters, Mary M. Nabors of Laurens and Rae M. Cayeleri of Evans, GA; seven grandchildren, Woody Cornwell Jr., Mark (Kelly) Cornwell, John Rhett (Gready) Frazier, Julianne (Joe) Reynolds, William Frazier, Stephenie (Scott) Gugel, and Sam (Gill) Minick; five great-grandchildren, Rhett, Riley and Lockwood Frazier and Frazier and Copeland Reynolds; three stepchildren, Sherry (Wesley) Murphy of Seneca, Rusty (Deborah) Prater of Edgefield and Kirn (Jeremy) Hunt of Lexington; nine stepgrandchildren, Ashli Murphy, Christi (Jonathan) Williams, Chanda (Tim) Pye, Victoria, Nicholas and Nicole Prater, Joseph and Prater Street and Reid Hunt; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Steve, Joe Robert, Johnie and Billy Minick and three sisters, Irene Crapps, Nell Betchman and Lillie Minick. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda, S.C., by the Rev. Tom Norrell and Rev. Nels Ledwell. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
