Mayson, Frances Helen Butler* NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mrs. Frances Helen Butler Mayson, entered into rest Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 in the chapel of Rowland Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry T. Matthews and Rev. Ty Lochridge officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Doug Hixon, Bill Hixon, Michael Jordan, Tony Carr, Jr., Lee Benson, and Chad Carroway. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Parks, Willard Stewart, Steve McElmurray, and Wallis Hallman. Mrs. Mayson was born on May 14, 1922 in Greenville, SC to the late Wilson T. and Sallie Lowe Butler. She moved to Augusta in 1927 and graduated from Tubman High School. She married the late Eddie F. Mayson on August 1, 1942 and moved to North Augusta where she has resided for the past sixty-four years. Mrs. Mayson was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta for over six-four years, having joined on Sunday, August 2, 1942. She served in many areas of the church thru the years. Her most enjoyable was teaching the four and five year old children. She was a Past President of the Sheffield Club. For the last several years, she was a member of the Homebound Department. She received Employee of the Year in1996 at Poteet Funeral Home of Augusta and North Augusta. She was a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, not only to her family but to a host of others who adopted her as their 'Grandmama', 'Granny Mayson' or 'Grandma Helen'. Survivors include one son, E. Earl Mayson (Wanda) of Auburn, WA; one daughter, Gloria M. Bussey (Ralph) of Conway, SC; four grandchildren, Chris Gigis (Frances) of Charleston, Michael Stewart and Bret Ortin of Auburn, WA, Renate B. Grose (Tyler) of Summerfield, NC, Kevin R. Bussey of Pleasant View, TN; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Marissa, and Gabriella Gigis all of Charleston, and Brandon Grose of Summerfield, NC; three sisters, Addie M. Beyers, Mary Alice Ivey and Betty M. Rogers all of North Augusta, SC; a cousin, Douglas Evans (Georgia) of Adairsville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
