Several obits were published in the State Paper today, May 1, 2007 that connect back to Old Edgefield families. ------------------------------------------------- Maude Polatty GREENWOOD - Leila Maude Dorn Polatry, wife of the late George Blake Polatty, died April 29,2007 at Hospice House of Greenwood. Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie Eugene and Hope Bridges Dorn. She retired as a textile worker and in her later years volunteered at Self Regional Medical Center. She was a life-long member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Saluda and later became a member of Laurel Baptist Church in Greenwood. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved by all her family. Surviving are a daughter, Dianne Moore of Greenwood; grandchildren Donna Lynn Culbertson of Whitmire, Robin Corley Whitt of Greenwood and Kenneth Blake Corley of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Jami Lynn Day of Lillington, NC, Lee Culbertson of Norfolk, VA, Emily Blake Whitt and Rose Elizabeth Whitt, both of Greenwood; sisters, Myrtle Lee Quattlebaum of Leesville, Elma Dorn,Wofford Davis, Myrtis Dorn andArzelle Trotter, all of Saluda. She waspredeceased by a daughter, Linda Faye Polatty Corley. Funeral services were conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Dublin officiating and Rev. Steve Justice assisting at The committal service. Interment will be in the Mayson Memorial Cemetery at Good Hope Baptist Church in Saluda. Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting Mrs. Polatty's family. ---------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Allie Mae Miller Bledsoe JOHNSTON - Services for Mrs. Allie Mae Miller Bledsoe, age 77, will be held Tuesday, May 1,2007, at 3 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Louie Anderson and Rev. Charles Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bland Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to Edgefield County Hospital, P.O. Box 590, Edgefield, SC 29824. Mrs. Bledsoe, a native of Ridge Spring, died Saturday, April 28, 2007. She was a daughter of the late Reedy and Mae Dell Jones Miller. Mrs. Bledsoe was a homemaker. Survivors include daughters: Vera Anderson, Aiken, Annette Asbill, Batesburg, Jeannie Lybrand, John-ston, Lynn Willis, Edgefield, Deborah Hipps, Johnston; sons: James "Buck" Bledsoe, Martinez, Ga., Larry Bledsoe, Aiken, Kenneth Bledsoe, Aiken, Ralph Bledsoe, Johnston, Steve Bledsoe, Johnston, Tracy Bledsoe, Johnston; brother, Harold Miller, Gaston; sisters, Grace Bartley, Saluda, and Gail Guay, Gilbert; 30 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bledsoe; two sons: Melvin and Dean Bledsoe; one granddaughter, Janet Anderson Bentley; two brothers, John and Vernon Miller; and sister, Louvenia Bledsoe. ------------------------------------------- Luke Rowe GREENWOOD - Buster Luke Rowe, 59, died Sunday, April 29,2007, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Linda Rowe, 212 E. Laurel Ave. Born in Saluda County, he was the son of the late Buster R. and Bertha Guyton Rowe. He served in the U.S. Army and later served as a recruiter for the Army National Guard. Mr. Rowe was a former employee of The Campbell Soup Company and later employed with Lowe's. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Sumter. Surviving are a son, Spencer Luke Rowe of Sumter, three brothers, Kenneth Mark Rowe of Greenwood, John Scott Rowe of Jennings, FL and Gene Rowe of Jasper, FL, two sisters, Annie Maude Cockrell of Las Vegas, NV and Rose Mary Rowe of Greenwood and a half-sister, Virginia Mae Whittle of Saluda. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Tuesday evening at Ramey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Emory United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of Mark and Linda Rowe, 212 E. Laurel Ave., Greenwood, SC.
