I'm still trying to piece together the family of Thomas M. Chandler, the noted Edgefield Potter. Sure would appreciate any help. Thomas M. Chandler was born in Virginia, married Margaret Durham in 1838 in Edgefield. He died about 1854. I think his widow, Margaret, married Abel Bolinger of Mecklenburg Co., NC and York Co., SC. 1838- married Margaret Durham 1840- Thomas M. Chandler,age 40, stoneware mfg. born VA; Margarett, age 36, born SC; Caroline Chandler, age 10; Josephine Chandler, age 8; Eliza Ann, age 6; Thomas H., age 4; Charles C., age 2; Mary, age 5/12. 1854 - Thomas M. Chandler died. 1860- Margaret Durham Chandler remarried A.B. Bolinger household, 1860 U.S. Census, Fort Mill P.O., York District, South Carolina, p. 72, line 15, family no. 602. A.B. Bolinger, age 49, carpenter, born Lincoln Co. NC; Margaret, age 38, born Edgefield, SC: Caroline, age 19, born Edgefield; Eliza (Eliz.D), age 14, born Edgefield; Charles I., , age 13, born Edgefield; Margaret D., age 5, born Edgefield; Nancy Durham, age 65, born York District, SC. *The children are Thomas Chandler's children, although Bolinger may have adopted them. I think Nancy is Margaret's mother. 1870 -A.J. Bollinger household, 1870 U.S. Census, Fort Mill P.O., York District, South Carolina, p. 414B, line 8, family no. 164. A.J. Bolinger, age 60, farmer and carpenter, born NC; Margt., age 50, born SC; Margaret, age 16, born SC; Charles Chandler, age 23, farmer, born SC; W.F. Durham, age 18, laborer, born SC: Nancy Durham, age 75, born SC. 1880- I can not find any of these people on the 1880 census or beyond. Abel Bolinger was previously married to Harriet Partlow in 1832 in Mecklinburg Co., NC. *Spouse: Harriet Partlow Marriage: 12 Jul 1832 Scource "Marr. of Mecklenburg Co. 1783-1868" Abel Balllinger household, 1840 U.S. Census, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. 1 male 20-30; 1 female 5-10 (This is correct. Harriet is not recorded on the census.) Abel Bolinger household, 1850 U.S. Census, Steel Creek Township, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, p. 5, line 23, family no. 79. Abel Bolinger, age 40, labourer; Harriet, age 33; Rachel Thorne, age 45. Does anyone know what happened to the children: Caroline, Josephine, Eliza, Charles, Mary/and or Margaret ?
