Carol B. Dorn Carol Cephronia Burnett Dorn, 64, of 412 Shrine Club Road, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 at her home. Born in Savannah, Ga., she was a daughter of Lester Harris Burnett and the late Marguerite Duke Burnett. Formerly of Emerald Island, N.C., she was a floral designer in Emerald Island and at Fooshe's Flower Cottage in Greenwood. She was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include her father of the home; two daughters, Lillian D. Calloway of Liberty, N.C., and Kelly D. Boyd of Washington, N.C.; a brother, Lester Duke Burnett of Greenwood; a sister, Brenda B. Lomas of Greenwood; and five grandchildren. Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Setzler. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Steve Drummond, Lester Dee Burnett, Hayes Burnett, Kevin Boyd, Dale Nixon and Rick Lomas. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. The family is at the home. McCall, 80, contributing writer to The Index-Journal, and longtime resident of Greenwood, died Monday evening, December 27th in the St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Mrs. McCall, known locally for her frequent columns, and Christmas stories, which became an annual holiday staple for The Index Journal for the past several decades, was involved for many years with Greenwood Writer's Guild, where she served as President. She was instrumental in bringing numerous literary notables to the community. This year was the first in recent memory that Mrs. McCall did not publish a Christmas story. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, Mrs. McCall was among the first women to enlist in the (U.S. Navy) Waves during World War Two, and she wrote often of, and was involved extensively with, veteran's issues. She was exposed to the world of journalism at an early age through her mother, Natalie Bond, who was a noted columnist and cartoonist for The Newark Star Journal and other newspapers. She was a devout member of Greenwood's Westminster Presbyterian Church. Traveling extensively with her husband of 30 years, Mickey McCall, Mrs. McCall resided in California, Hawaii, Florida and Virginia before settling in Greenwood in 1970. Mrs. McCall is survived by her son, Rod McCall of Hillsboro, New Mexico; her son, Bill McCall of Charlotte; her daughter, Annie Fuller of Greenville; her daughter, Beth Gray of Greenwood; her daughter Caroline Olenoski of Austin, Texas; nine grand-children, Shane McCall of Baltimore, Matt McCall of Charlotte, Amy Fuller of Greenville, Josh Fuller of Greenville, Lindsay Gray, Hannah Gray, Micah Gray of Greenwood, Sophie and Sadie Olenoski of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Wells Gray Gunter of Greenwood, and Cheyenne Fuller of Greenville; sons-in-law, Frank Fuller of Greenville, Bill Gray of Greenwood, and John Olenoski of Austin, Texas. Private burial service will be Thursday, December 30th at 12:30 PM at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Attending pastors for the burial services will be Reverend Frank Fuller and Reverend Chris Leonard. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum with the Rev. Chris Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
