    3. Edgefield County List: I am a descendant of Howell JOHNSTON that settled in Lincoln County, Tennessee. It is believed that he migrated from South Carolina to Tennessee. He was born 26 May 1793. It has been passed on to me that he may have been a land surveyor by trade. I noticed that there is a Johnston community in Edgefield County, does anyone know any of the history of this community and if there may have been JOHNSTON Family that settled in this community? 3. Edgefield Deed Book 32, p. 543: Thomas Warren, planter, to his son Burris Warren, Deed of Gift, 2 November 1815, love, 150 acres on Chincopin Creek part of tract formerly held by HOWELL JOHNSTON, also one griss [sic] mill on sd stream, two negroes Patt and one boy named Bonapartt; also 204 acres the land I now live on; also blacksmiths tools, give after my decease. Wit Thomas Walker, Nancey (x) Favours. /s/ Thomas (x) Warren. Proven 3 February 1816 by Thomas Walker; Nathan Norris JP. Rec 26 March 1816. I have no idea if this person is connected to the one you're seeking. Chinquapin Creek is a northwestern tributary of the North Fork of the Edisto River (starts just below Batesburg SC), so is only "barely" within old Edgefield--currently in Saluda Co--near the border with Lexington Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Prosser Genealogy - Comcast" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 03, 2004 9:14 PM Subject: HOWELL JOHNSTON Edgefield County List: I am a descendant of Howell JOHNSTON that settled in Lincoln County, Tennessee.
