These are some of the earlier family connections to Edgefield. Abraham BURTON is an early ancestor of this name. Many of my families came from Southside VA, as most of you know. Until the surname Roll Call, I didn't realize how many names I already had that may connect to many of you I hadn't previously known about. I have more on these families. Audrey: I am very interested in your family names. I am researching: Lankford/Langford, Jackson, Kimball, Duncan families who migrated from the Southside area of Virginia into North Carolina and then to Edgefield South Carolina. They lived near Burtons everywhere they wandered. I am seeking one John Burton who had wife Elizabeth and at least one child. John was deceased by 1805 as Edmond Lankford appears on the Georgia 1805 Lottery with two draws, one of which is for the orphan of John Burton. Edmond sold his land in Edgefield on Ninty Six Creek which bordered among others Dudley Brooks, William Burden and Wiley Glover, and migrated to Georgia about 1793. He had a sister Elizabeth who may be the widow of John Burton. Due to the lack of census records for Georgia in 1790, 1800 and 1810 I have not been able to locate John Burton in Georgia and have absolutely no idea which Georgia County he lived in and who were his parents or siblings. I feel sure John Burton is connected with the Virginia Burtons who lived in the same area of the Jackson, Kimball, etc. families. I would appreciate any information you may have to share on the Burtons and where in Georgia they may have migrated from South Carolina. Also interested in Beville and Pettipool families again because of inter-marriages. Tree Mother http://frontporchrockernews.blogspot.com "She is insane, of course. The family history has become a mania for her."
