I have several Drury/ Drewry Glovers in my files. Here are my best shots at who they may be. Comments invited. 1. Drury Glover, b. ca. 1744 NC, d. after 1814 probably in Abbeville District, SC. Married Mary. Served Rev. War from SC. Son of William Glover and lst wife Ann, grandson of William and Mary Norwood Glover. I think he was raised in Granville Co. NC., migrated to Tryon County (NC and upper SC), then to Camden District and then Ninety Six District (Abbeville County, SC.) Drury/Drewy appeared in court records of Chester Co. (Camden District) and Edgefield Co. (Ninety Six District) SC at the same time. His father's will of 1782 was written in Camden District , but probated in Abbeville (Ninety Six District), so it isn't unreasonable to assume that Drury moved back and forth (not a far distance). Also, he lived near the line of Abbeville Co. and Edgefield Co, so he appeared in records for both counties. It is possible that there were two early Drury's at work here, but until someone proves otherwise, I'm going to assume they were all the same man. 2. Drury Glover (Jr.)- b. ca. 1784 probably Ninety Six District, SC. I believe this is the Drury who married Rebecca Cresswell of Abbeville Co., SC. He is most likely a son or nephew of Drury above. Served War of 1812. Although, I've not verified this, Rebecca's application for a widow's pension for War of 1812 states that they were married 18 Dec. 1818. Drury Glover household, 1820 U.S. Census, Abbeville District, South Carolina, p. 39. 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-45; 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-45. (This looks like a young married couple with two young children.) I believe the Rebecca Glover on the 1830 Abbeville Co. census is his widow. 1 male 5-9, 1 female 5-9, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 30-39 3. Drewry Glover - of Decatur Co. Georgia- Drewry Glover household, 1830 U.S. census, Decatur County, Georgia, p. 16. 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-9, 1 male 10-14, 1 male 20-29; 1 female 5-9. (Looks like Drewry is a young widower.) (Lived next door to Jesse Glover, age 40-49.) Jesse Glover household, 1830 U.S. census, Decatur County, Georgia, p. 16. 2 males 10-14, 2 males 15-19, 1 male 40-49; 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-9, 1 female 30-39. According to the ages, this can not be the Drury Glover on the 1820 Barnwell County, SC census, nor can it be the Drury Glover on the 1820 Abbeville County, SC census. 4. Drury Glover - b. after 1795, of Barnwell District, SC.- Drury Glover household, 1820 U.S. Census, Barnwell County, South Carolina, p. 12, line 3. 2 males under 10, 1 male 16-25; 1 female 16-25. Drury GLOVER, Esquire, who m. 03 OCT 1815 Miss Tilitha (or Talitha?) Sizmore daughter of Henry Sizemore, Esquire, as reported 13 OCT 1815 in the Augusta [GA] Chronicle newspaper. 5. Drury Glover - in Barnwell District, SC earlier in 1790- There was a much earlier Drury Glover in Barnwell County. Winton (Barnwell) Co. Court Minutes mention an account against Drury Glover in the inventory of estate of John Anthony, Jan. 1790. It's a stretch, but this may be the same Drury as no. 1. I believe some of Drury no. 1's family ended up in Barnwell District- maybe he traveled back and forth. 6. Drury B. Glover- b. 3 Spet. 1810 in SC- was a son of William Yancy Glover, who was son of Drury no. 1. I wonder if he was the Drury who went to Mississippi. I haven't studied it.
These Glover entries are from my collection of Sullivan data. Does this help? Reba M. ST. HELENA PARISH MARRIAGES: John Sullivan to Sally Glover 11-23-1814 No. 231.
