Searching for parents of Harriet, who was the second wife of McKinney Melton. Harriet was born ca 1810-1817 in SC, and died aft 1860 - the last census I can find her in. She married McKinney Melton ca 1831, probably in Georgia. Children to this marriage were: Elizabeth, Sarah C., Wiley Bryant, Mary and Quinney Ann (who was born after her fathers death). After McKinney Melton died, she remarried to James M. Davis and went to Attala Co MS with the children of this marriage. She had three additional children from her second marriage: James, Sophia and Joseph. A court case (which went to GA State Supreme Court) between the children of McKinney Melton's first marriage and Harriet as to who should get the proceeds of the estate mentions that Harriet married to an Irving - but I have been unable to find that - only her being married to James Davis. In the court case, the only child not joining in from McKinney's first marriage was Jane, wife of James Cloud (from Edgefield Dist originally). I wonder if Harriet was a Cloud because of this and Harriet seems to have been a name repeated in the Cloud family. Some have suggested she is a Hughes. If she is a CLoud, and since James Cloud is originally from Edgefield Dist, there may be clues there. THanks, Trish Elliott-Kashima
