JAMES HARRISON younger son of JAMES and SUSANNAH HARRISON was born June 6, 1781. He married MARY HOLLINGSWORTH (b. 1786), and according to Descendants of VALENTINE HOLLINGSWORTH, sr. p. 164 re: Hollingsworths of Edgefield, JAMES and SUSANNAH are referred to as 'of Virginia'. JAMES HARRISON was one of the executors of the will of JAMES HOLLINGSWORTH Sr., father of his wife MARY "POLLY" HARRISON. Will dated Nov. 3, 1816, Proved Sept. 24, 1821, gave 336 acres on Hard Labor Creek in Abbeville Dist. to be equally divided bet. JAMES HARRISON (his sons-in-law). JAMES HARRISON married MARY HOLLINGSWORTH 1808. In 1803 Jas. Harrison bought from SAMUEL HALL 350 acres for $425.00, this being part of land granted to JAMES WILSON located on Rocky Creek bounded on two sides by James Sr. In 1805 JAS. HARRISON bought from THOMAS ADAMS for $180.00 part of a tract originally JAS. WILSON's and containing 100 acres on Turkey Creek. Witnessed by ABRAHAM COLLEN AND GARRET LAGUIRE. JAMES ADAMS land. Pursuant to a warrant from John Blocker, Jr. Esq. Comm. Of location for Edgefield District having date the 16th of Feb. 1808, I have adm. and laid out unto JAMES HARRISON a track of land containing 246 acres situated in said district on the branch of Cuffytown Creek and Rocky Creek waters of Steven Creek and Savannah River, and hath such shapes, forms, mark as the above plat represents surveyed 25 day February, 1806. Michael Blocker, D.S. JAMES HARRISON bought from Daniel (or David) Rush 28 acres of land on Cuffytown Creek 1806. Witnessed by EDWARD HARRISON. JAMES HARRISON bought from Josiah Langley 217 acres, part of A. Crosier grant located on Cuffytown Creek. Witnessed by EDWARD HARRSION and ROBERT HARRISON 1806. JAMES HARRISON appears for the first time in the census of 1810, Edgefield County S.C. It shows one male age 26-45 (self); 1 female age 15-26 (wife); 1 female under 10, and one female over 45. JAMES HARRISON bought from Aaron DeCosta 350 acres for $175.00 boubnded by J. Harrison and Wilson. Witness Susannah Harrison and John Blocker, Jr. 1814. Under Act of 1791, James Harrison had 660-3/4 acres surveyed for him the 3rd day of August 1818, situate in Edgefield Dist. on Wilsons branch, the waters of Rocky Creek and Turkey Creek, waters of Savannah River. Witness: Andrew Pickens, Gov. at Columbia, S.C. Sept. 7, 1818 in the 43rd year of American Independence. Surveyor General signs Aug.26, 1818. 1820 census of Edgefield County, S.C. shows JAMES HARRISON age 26-45, 1 female age 26-45 (wife); 2 males to 10 years; 2 females to 10 years; 1 female 10-16 years. In 1923 JAMES HARRISON purchased some land from SAMUEL HALL. He also purchased some land from JOSIAH LANGLEY about the same time. In 1826 he purchased land from SAMUEL HALL. 1830 census of Edgefield County, S.C. shows JAS. HARRISON age 40-50 years. 1 female age 30-40 years (wife); 1 male under 5 years; 1 male 5-10 years; 1 male 10-15 years; 1 female 5-10 years; 1 female 10-15 years; 1 female 15-20 years. In a Deed recorded Sept. 18, 1831, JAMES HARRISON gave unto the Methodise [sic.] persuasion Edgefield Co., S.C. to the following persons as trustees for Mount Vernon Church, WILLIAM R. MILLWR, SOLOMON JOHNSON, HENRY SHELMUT, JOHN DORRIS, and said JAMES HARRISON, a lot or place of land containing two acres of land, lying near old Long Cane Road on head dreans[sic] of Wilson branch, conveyed to the above named trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Church, and to be good ad[sic] long as they keep a church at Mt. Vernon, when they no longer kept a church there the deed would be void. Signed Sept. 10, 1831. Trustee of Edg. Meth. Ch. 1841 I do not have the 1840 census records. There is recorded Jan. 26, 1841, a deed from JOHN RODES to JAMES HARRISON for 90 acres on Cuffytown Creek (has notation of Jan.21 1785) and it joins land of JAMES HARRISON and HENRY LANGLY. Deed was signed Dec. 29, 1840 in the 55th year of American Independence. Will of JAMES HARRISON written Feb. 14, 1841 and recorded at Edgefield Dist., S.C. Nov. 13, 1843. Witnessed by JOHN ANDERSON, JAMES M. HARRISON, E. DEVERE, AND E LAGRONE.
