I have been rereading some old messages that I saved because there was still something that needed to be done. This one deals with the conflict between the census records of the Jesse Satcher family and the death certificate of one Frances S. Jackson, who I have as Frances Satcher Jackson. I need help with some of the conclusions I have made. From cemsus records, I found the following informtion on the Jesse + Sarah [Hazel] Satcher. 1850 Edgefield Co, SC., Edgefield Division, p. 94B, hh# 1453 Satcher Jesse 30 M Farmer 1,000 SC Satcher Sarah A. 28 F SC Satcher Margaret 8 F SC Satcher Tillman 6 M SC Satcher John 4 M SC Satcher Sarah 2 F SC 1860 Edgefield Co, SC, Edisto Mills PO, p. 16 HH#122/119 Jesse Satcher 41 M Farmer SC Sarah A. Horace Satcher identifies Jesse's wife as Sarah Ann Hazel, but at this time it is not verified. I have ASSUMED that all of the children in the census records belong to Jesse and Sarah, but have no will or other document to verify those conclusions. Sarah is found living with her son Tillman in the 1870 Edgefield Co, Census, hh# 295 with other of her children: Tillman Satcher, head, 26, M W $1500/500 b. SC Sarah A. Felder Apr 15 1841 Jan 15 1895 ---------------------------------------------------- So, I concluded that Francis S. of 1880 was Francis Satcher d/o Jesse Satcher and Sarah Ann [Hazel] and that she married James Felder Jackson. Then I got her death certificate: 1928 - Death Cert. #12175, Edgefield Co, SC Mrs. Frances Jackson White, Female, Widow b. July 15, 1853, Edgefield Co, SC father: [James] Satcher, Edgefield co, SC mother. Ann [Floyd] d. Dec. 17, 1928, Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC cause: Mitral insufficiency informant: J. L. Jackson, Johnston, SC buried: Phillipi UT: Lott - Walker, Johnston, SC The parents don't fit with the other information. So...... 1. I checked the 1850,1860, and 1870 census records for a James Satcher in Edgefield around the time of Frances' birth and time at home. There was none. 2. I read the DC father as James altho is was very difficult to read, so it might have been Jesse. 3. Mother Ann could be Sarah Ann, and the Floyd name [in brackets because it was so hard to read] may be in error. 4. Frances' husband had been dead 33 years; her father died before her children were born; and her mother lived, but may only have been known as "Granny Satcher". Therefore the error may be a lack of knowledge by the informant, who was a Jackson, and not one that I can identify at that. Conclusion: I am still going with the census record and the info. that she is the daughter of Jesse Satcher until other evidence comes up that convinces me otherwise. I believe her to be the d/o 1 Jesse SATCHER b: Abt. 1819 d: May 24, 1865 . +Sarah Ann HAZEL b: November 12, 1821 d: May 09, 1890 Father: Darling Hazel Mother: Margaret Bland ........2.
