C. - Mrs Birda Powell Quarles, 89, Route 3 died Wednesday in a Saluda nursing home. Mrs Quarles was a native of Saluda County and a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Velma Powell and Robbie Lanier, Johnston, S C , one brother, Walter Powell Aiken, and two sisters, Ola Timmerman, Ward, SC., and Mogine Clark. Mr. Powell was a native of Saluda County, and a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 43, Aiken, and the American Legion Post No. 154, Johnston. Survivors include his wife, Frances Wood Powell; and two sisters, Ola P. Timmerman, Ward, and Mogene P. Willing, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wood, Joby Wood, Kenneth Chew, Jack Willing, Joseph Willing and Larry Willing.
