The Western Auto store in my hometown of Whitmire (Newberry County) was owned by the Wardlaw family. They were natives of Greenwood County. Present day Greenwood and Abbeville counties are home to many Wardlaws (McCormick, too, I think). I'm thinking the area around Troy and Bradley in Greenwood County was where many of their early settlements were. This would be on the opposite side of Greenwood County from the Reedy River. There is a Wardlaw Academy (private school) somewhere in this area, but its exact location escapes me at the moment.
