Descendants of Enoch Grigsby: "History of Edgefield Co: from Earliest Settlers -1897" by John A. Chapman p. 96-97 Susan Butler m Enock Grigsby. A son, Col. Ryden Grigsly had 4 daughters. One of the daughters married LOD HILL. " Lod Hill, who lived near Richarsonville in the Rev. left 2 sons, Theophilus Hill and Henry Hill, and a daughter who married Capt. Bryant Dean, the father of Col. A.B. Dean and Capt. Theophilus Dean... referred to later as Capt. Offie Dean...was living in 1891 at Mt. Enon in the house built by Dr. J. C. Ready. Many years age (wrtten in 1897) Capt. Dean was tax collector for the district." The 1790 census for Edgefield Co. contains the following Enoch Grigsby. Which on is he? Grixby, Enox 2m>15; 1m <16; 4 females - 15 slaves Chapman wrote (pp 96-97), Mr. Grigsby lived near Mount Willing on the plantation occupied in 1891 by Dr. Unger. He left one son, Colonel Rhyden [sic] Grigsby, and four daughters. One of these daughter [Sarah] married Captain Jonathan Weaver [other sources say she married a William Moore]; one [Nancy] married Gen. Samuel Mays of Big Saluda; one [Susannah] married Lod Hill, who lived near Richardsonville in the Revolution; Thomas Butler, a brother of General Butler married another [Elizabeth]]. Enoch Grigsby's will (box 38, pkg 1493) mentions "my daughter, Susannah Hill." There is an Enock Grigsby's estate administration which takes place in 1820 with Rhydon Grigsby the admr. Edgefield Co probate, Box 12, pkg 410. Wife is named Frances. Is this Enock the father, or is there a son Enock. I have treated it like a son. 1 Enoch GRIGSBY . +Mary BUTLER Father: William Butler ..... 2 Col. Rhydon GRIGSBY d: Abt. April 1826 ......... +Sarah MANNING ............ 3 Samuel M.
