A while back, Beth Hemingway posted the obit of Cleo Hill, Wife of John Oliver HILL and also the following on her father, W. S. RAMSEY The following obit was posted to the [email protected] by Beth Hemmingway from the Augusta Chronicle Archives: Augusta Chronicle, 5-27-1925, page 5A W.S. Ramsey Dies at Columbia, SC - Was Father of Mrs J.O. Hill of Augusta The friends of Mrs J.O. Hill will be sorry to hear of the sudden death of her father, W.S. Hill of Augusta; Albert J Ramsey, of Monetta, SC, also a brother, Robert Ramsey, of Columbia, and a sister, Mrs Katherine Baker, of Charleston, SC. Mr. Ramsey will be interred in the family burying ground at Monetta, SC, today. I am a Hill researcher of the Edgefield Co, SC Hills, some of whom moved to the Augusta Area. I got curious and started checking out the RAMSEY family in my census info. and some books I have. Here is what I found. Hope it helps someone. Dunbar, Columbia, SC Began searching census records to find W. S. Ramsey with siblings Katherine and Robert named in the obit. The only 1860 Edgefield Co., census record that works does not work with the death cert. name of father, but everything else seems to work. Further research puts him with siblings named in his obit in the 1860 - 1880 census records. [see notes of father Andrew Ramsey] Maybe the R. F. Ramsey name in the death cert. comes from the "Uncle Robert" remembered by the family?? Lott [Augusta Chronicle , Sept 29, 1920, p. 7A; In the obit of Marshall (Jack) Lott, written July 26, 1933, Richmond Co, GA, she is named as a niece, Mrs. J. O. Hill of Augusta, GA; In the obit of her Aunt Sallie Lott, d. 1942, she is called Mrs. Cleo R. Hill. Based on this, it is my conclusion that she is Cleo Ramsey Hill, daughter of Buelah Lott Ramsey, sister of Sallie Lott. She is connected to her line thru an obit that was posted to the [email protected] list by Beth Hemingway, August, 2004. It contained the following statement: W.S.
