    1. [SCEDGEFI] RE wife of James Leopard, parents of Benjamin D. Leopard
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. Helen, I have a note for Jane Ethridge as follows: Helen L. Lewis <jlewis_21@charter.net> states that she is the d/o of BENJAMIN ETHERIDGE and ELIZABETH JENNINGS. She states that her parents are on the same page in 1860 as she and her husband. She is married to James Leopard and they are listed in my files as the parents of Benjamin d. Leopard b. 1843 . 1 James William Leopard b: Abt. 1823 d: Aft. 1880 in Macon Co., NC. .. +Jane Etheridge b: Abt. 1829 d: Aft. 1880 in Macon Co., NC. ..... 2 Benjamin D. Leopard b: Mar 31, 1843 in SC d: Jun 10, 1937 Burial: Good Hope Baptist Church, Saluda Co, SC ......... +Hettie A. 'Shady' Butler b: Aug 09, 1843 in SC d: Nov 06, 1928 Burial: Good Hope Baptist Church, Saluda Co, SC Father: Mire J. BUTLER Mother: Lucinda SMITH However, I recently transcribed the following Death Cert. which notes the mother of Benjamin as Jannie RHODEN. 1937 - Death Cert #9645, Saluda Co, SC Benjamin Leopard Male, White, Farmer, widow, lived Ninety Six, SC b. April 4, 1843, SC father: James Leopard, SC mother: JANNIE RHODEN, SC d. June 10, 1927, Colemans twp #5, Saluda Co, SC cause: senile debility informant: Charlie Leopard, Chappells, SC buried: Good Hope UT: Mrs. R. L. Ramey & son, Saluda, SC You also stated that his parents died in Macon Co, NC. What do you make of the name of the mother? Could James have been married twice? Or Jane have been married to an Etheridge or a Rhoden before her marriage to James William Leopard?? She was married before 1845, so there is no census records of her with her parents. She would have been ca 15 at the time of the marriage, if the first child. Julia Ann Leopard age 4 in 1850 was born is her child. Not much time for another marriage. Julia is older than Benjamin per census records, and he was born in 1843 per DC, so that makes her even younger. Any help on proving the maiden name of Benjamin Leopard's mother would be much appreciated. Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net
