The following was published today in "The State", Columbia, SC. I was trying to attach her to some of the Matthews folks in my files. Here is the obit, scanned from the paper. BATESBURG - Emma Lessie Adams, 92, passed away Monday, September 25, 2006. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at Concord Baptist Church with interment in Billy Matthews Cemetery with Pastor Elton Dunbar officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Adams, Lee Leaphart, Richard Marcengill, Tim Shealy, Adam Shealy and Omega Matthews. She was born in Batesburg, daughter of the late Pierce and Corrie Bedenbaugh Matthews. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was married to the late Eugene Edgar Adams and was a homemaker. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Legrand Adams and wife, Phyllis, of Laurens; Marvin Adams and wife, Ann, of Batesburg; daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy Leaphart of Lexington; Sara A. Shealy and husband, Bobby, of Leesville; brothers, Alvin and Lorenzo Matthews, both of Batesburg; sisters, Ruby M. Burnor; Ronell M. Rushford both of Vermont; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Concord Baptist Church, 860 N. Lee Street, Leesville, SC 29070. Milton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg-Leesville is in charge of all arrangements. -------------------------------------------------- Well, I just got curious to see if I could connect her with this info. so started going thru census and cemetery records that I have here at home. I found the cem. record for husband Eugene Edgar Adams in the William Garrett (Billy) Matthews Family Cem., Saluda Co., SC. At the time of the survey, Emma Lessie Matthews Adams was still living. Per her obit above, she died Sept 25, 2006, Batesburg, SC. I added that date to her cem. record, which gave her birth date: Adams, E. Lessie Sep 2 1914 - Sept 25, 2006 Adams, Eugene E. May 6 1909 - Sep 11 1977 I checked out some census records, and found Pierce Matthews and Corrie in two census records that gave me a list of 10 children. According to the 1870 census which I have not yet transcribed, Cleve and Matilda have a son John age 15 so born in 1855. That's not real proof, but since they are buried together, I think it is probably true. Anyone have a document like a will or such that proves some of these connections I have made based on some basic census research?
