    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I am responding to your message to the SCAIKEN list as follows: I'm looking the parents John Hert (1850-abt1900) and Amanda Rotten (1857-1923). They were both born in Saluda,SC and died in Langley,SC. They were married in 1874 in Edgefield,SC. Please contact me if you know anything about these two people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am a Rotton/Rauton desc. If you connect to Amanda then we are cousins, thru the common ancestors in generation 1. I have much info. on this family, but not on Amanda. Hope we can share and expand out knowledge on this family. I have lots of sources and supporting data for the family, but still have a lot to prove and pieces missing. I am assuming that it was this John; However, his uncle William Rotton Sr. also had a son John, and since both families were members of the church, it is not known which John it was at the time. John Rotton, Jr. received at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Edgefield Co., SC [per minutes 1831-1875] on Dec. 31 by letter. No female listed at the time. Was he not married them? However on Nov 6, 1853, he and Elizabeth were dismissed by letter. On Nov 4, 1854, they transferred their letter back to Rocky Creek. Where were they in the meantime? He was an active member and is mentioned numerous times on committees as well as closing the meetings with prayer. It is very possible that he was a Deacon in the church. The following reference was found in the minutes. Both John and John Jr. were members at the time: Oct 2, 1847 John Rotton elected Deacon. He was then ordained Nov 6, 1847. [I would assume that this is John Rotton Jr., but could be wrong. ] Children listed: CENSUS: 1850 Edgefield co., SC , p. 20B hh# 311 {online census had hh 310) Rotton, Jr John 46 M Farmer 800 South Carolina Rotton Elizabeth 30 F South Carolina Rotton James 11 M South Carolina Rotton Mary 9 F South Carolina Rotton Susan 7 F South Carolina Rotton Eliza 5 F South Carolina Rotton Lucinda 3 F South Carolina Rotton Smyly 1 M South Carolina 1860 Edgefield Co, SC p. 152 Richardsonville PO, Saluda Regiment, hh# 508 --- lists all of the above children and the children born after 1850.
