Isaac MATHEWS - Edgefield, S.C. Isaac MATHEWS and his eldest son, Moses MATHEWS bought a tract of land originally granted to William WHITAKER 4th Oct 1768, situated on both sides of Little Saluda River near the junction with Big Saluda River, bounded on East by lands of William WEST and on all other sides vacant, who conveyed the said property to John CHESNUT, Esq. of Camden and said CHESNUT sold jointly to said Isaac MATHEWS and Moses MATHEWS, but titles were made only to Isaac MATHEWS, with a verbal agreement that one-half of property was Moses MATHEWS and the other half the property of Isaac MATHEWS. It was the 'dying wish and desire' of Isaac MATHEWS that his half of said property become that of his son, Daniel MATHEWS. The family had to go into Court of Equity to establish titles to the land and settle the estate of Isaac MATHEWS. Isaac MATHEWS died 25th March 1791. He served as a Soldier in the American Revolution in South Carolina, and was on the 'new list of Jury Men in S.C., 1778-1779. His wife, Anna, died prior to 1814. They had the following children: 1. Moses MATHEWS, born ca 1760 and died ca 1809, served the American Revolution with Patriotic Services. He married Martha and their children were: a. Anna MATHEWS m. William HARDY b. Elizabeth MATHEWS, b. 2 Dec 1787 and died 5 Dec 1858, m. Jacob POPE, b. 25 Mar 1781 and died 27 Aug 1849. c. Cebel (Sylbil) MATHEWS m. Daniel CURINTON. d. Enoch MATHEWS became of age ca 1814-1815 e. Mary MATHEWS was listed as minor until her marriage with Arthur H. FORT ,a 1814-1815 f. William MATHEWS listed as minor 1814 g. Eleanor MATHEWS listed as minor 1814 h. Budcade MATHEWS listed as minor 2. Lewis MATHEWS deceased p. 1814 m. Nancy ALLEN, who m. 2ND Bailey CROUCH (COUCH?). Lewis and Nancy MATHEWS' children: a. Elizabeth MATHEWS (d. p. 1814) m. Thomas WAITS and they had a daughter, Nancy, who was a minor in 1814. b. *Sugar Jones MATHEWS who became of age 1814-1815. *Luke MATHEWS/MATHIS was the s/o Sugar Jones MATHEWS. Daniel MATHEWS sells to Jacob POPE for $250, 125 acres, being part of 250 acres situated on Little Saluda River, being originally granted to William WHITAKER in Oct 1768 and conveyed to John CHESNUT 27-28th of Sept 1769 and from him to Isaac MATHEWS 8 Jan 1790 and then by Court of Equity to said Daniel MATHEWS 244 Feb 1816. 20 Dec 1827. Wit: William HARDY, John GEIGER. Nathaniel GORLEY J. Q. Signed: Daniel MATHEWS. Marah, wife of Daniel MATHEWS relinq. Dower rights. Recorded 4 Sept 1830. 8. Judge of Probate Vault, Edgefield Co, SC. Equity Package #95. Exhibit A: 'Received of Moses MATHEWS one shilling which makes me fully satisfied for my wife's part of father's estate, received by me (signed) Thos. PACE. Oct 26th 1791. Teste: Enoch DAVIS. 9. Rev War Pension Application #10678 in Wilcox Co, AL George FLUKER was b. 19 Apr 1759 in Northumberland Co, VA. He was living in Bute County, NC when he first entered the service as a substitute for his father, David FLUKER in 1778. Bute Co, NC later divided into Franklin and Warren Counties, where he married. After his marriage they moved to Halifax Co, NC; then to Edgefield District, SC; then to Marengo Co, AL; then to Wilcox Co, AL. *George FLUKER is listed in D.A.R Patriot Index, page 242 as Sgt. N.C.
