Audrey, was this source: Edgefield Co. Records by Janie Revell? My comments about John Carter in right of his wife below are NOT preceeded by > I also checked the 1850 census to see if I could find any of these folks. On line, "Electronic," http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~shill957/pafg2668.htm#2634. has Sugar Jones Matthews b. ca 1793. HC Ouzts has an unknown Matthews [1768](m. Martha (b. 1770 SC))[1850] I believe that the above is the following John Carter, altho this John's father was Charles Carter m. Lydia Scurry, so he was not a Jr., but Jr. & Sr. not always used to denote father & son, but sometimes to denote the older of two John Carters in the area at the time. 1 John Benjamin CARTER b: March 04, 1799 Edgefield Co., SC d: December 12, 1856 . +Willa Ann MATTHEWS/MATHIS b: July 1813 SC m: July 14, 1831 [La Fayette, Chatooga County, Georgia] or [SC] d: May 09, 1871 [Source: the John Benjamin Carter Ledger, transcribed by Ed. Does anyone know the wife of John Christian? Could he be a John Christie? I found his grave on one of my trips when mother and I just stopped at every cem. we passed. According to Greenwood Co. Sketches: Old Rds and Early Families by Margaret Watson, Attic Press, Inc., Greenwood, SC, 1970, p. 322, he died in young manhood, apparently unmarried. On one of my roaming trips with my mother where we stopped at every cem. we saw, we found a small old graveyard containing a Bud Caid Matthews dates 7/26/1798 - 10/28/1820. Could this fit here as sited by the Greenwood Sketches book. The cem. is located on hwy 246,, Greenwood Co - on the right from Saluda. Also buried there are the two other sons of Drury described in the Greenwood Sketches book as dying as young men having never married (John Pope and Wiley J. Ed we welcome any comments about the Matthews line if you have worked on this. I have added the Sugar J.
