Purchasers: Susannah TURNER, Robert TURNER, Richard TURNER, John GORMAN, Joseph BUFFINGTON, Letson STROUD, Samuel CROW*, Nathan TROTTER and Morris GWIN. Susannah, Richard and Robert TURNER purchased most items. Total amount was $930.11 ½, dated 2-9-1801" *My mother has the CROW line from Spartanburg Co, SC. (Audrey) COMMENTS by BILLIE JONES I work on Trotters somewhat and Betty Trotter sent me some info.on Nathan Trotter. Below are two comments in her file that shows where these folks would have lived. South Carolina Land Grants 1801; Vol. 47, Class 02, p. 225; Nathan Trotter: "We have granted unto Nathan Trotter, his heirs and assigns a plantation or tract of land containing forty acres, surveyed for him this 17th of February 1801., situated in the District of Edgefield upon the waters of Big Creek, a branch of Little Saluda. Bound by lines running E by Gray's land, NE by Robert Christie/Christin(?). NW by John Kay and John Moseley. S by John Bevins....." Signed 2 March 1801. According to an 1829 mortgage of Richard Turner, who owned some neighboring property, Panter/Panther branch is a branch of Big Creek. It is property at the fork of Panter/Panther Branch and Big Creek that Nathan's son, Thomas Trotter, sold land he had inheirited from his father in 1826. I've seen the Morris Gwin name but have no info. in my files. I don't research the Turner's yet. I have two John Gorman's - father and son. FAther d. 1803, son born 1770 so could be either one. I have that the some moved to Warren Co. GA., but don't know when. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- "Inventory of the estate John NEWTON, deceased, sold 10-1-1799 by William JOHNSON "Crier". Purchasers included: John SADLER, Lewis MATTHEWS, John HOLOWAY, John GWIN, Joseph CASON, James RAMSY, William GREEN, Lutson STROUD, Neomy NEWTON and John POOL. Total received $135.24 ½." John POOL'S 3rd great-grandson, John A. POOL married Tennessee STROUD in Smith Co, TX. This is my husband's direct line ancestors. (Audrey) COMMENTS BY BILLIE JONES: The names seem to put these folks in the same area. I have one Lewis Matthews as given below. The source of some of this info. is "The Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol ll, p. 95-96.'. This book is no longer accepted by DAR due to many errors found in it. I also used DAR records, DAR # 282722 Mrs. Julia King Medlock, Augusta, Ga. (Old Ninety Six Chapter)., but don't know what her source was for Lewis. The Compendium book had this for the parentage of Lewis, but I have not verified it: 1 Capt.
