While I was at the local library today, I found this in the book A GENEALOGICAL COLLECTION OF S. C. WILLS AND RECORDS, Vol. 2, compiled by Miss Pauline Young, Copyright 1984, Southern Historical Press, Inc.. pg. 157 Estate of Thomas Brough Box 4 Pack 75, 1834 Abbeville Courthouse, South Carolina "Abbeville District I Thomas Brough of the state and district aforesaid being of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last will and testament. Item 1st I give and bequeath to my wife Nancy Brough a negro woman named Fanny and at her death, the said negro woman Fanny to the property of my daughter MARGARET MATHEWS. I also give to my wife a negro boy named Pompey, two hundred dollars cash, a bed, bedstead and furniture and any other piece or pieces of household furniture she may desire to retain or to own, and at her death all of this property, except the above named negro woman Fanny, to be equally divided among my children. Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my son James L. Brough a negro woman named Sally, also the tract of land he now lives on, but if he should have no legally begotten heirs of his body at the time of his death, then said tract of land to be equally divided among my children. Item 3? (I must have missed this because I go directly to ) Item 4 I give and bequeath to my daughter Nelly Scott, a negro woman named Dinah. Item 5th I give and bequeath to my son-in-law Peter Revil two hundred dollars in cash. Item 6 I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Lewis Brough three hundred dollars in cash. Item 7 All my personal property not otherwise disposed of, to be equally divided among all my children and my grandson John L. Brough. Lastly I nominate Joseph Mathews and Peter Bevil? (Revil?) , executors of this my last will and testament Witness my hand and seal this fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty- four and the fifty-ninthth year of the independence of the United States. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Joseph Callhan his Emanuel Wiss Thomas Brough Henry H. Townes mark Expenditures March 1836 Paid to Peter Bevil Bequest $200.00 Paid Nancy Brough Senr. Bequest 200.00 Paid Elijah Legard 132.67 Paid Thomas Brough his dividend 169.26 The estate was sold 5th Nov 1834. Appraisement made 22 Sept 1834 by N. Banks Emauel Wise and Jame McCelvey." So this does show that a Margaret Brough did marry a Mathews. Hope
