While cleaning up my desktop, I found a file where I had typed a bunch of probate records, some transcribed, some extracted, some just a few notes on them, probably almost two years ago and I have no idea if I have posted them to the site or not. So I am doing so. Please forgive the cross posting, but Old Edgefield Dist covered quite an area. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------- *Will of Solomon Pope decd. Solomon Popes estate contained 13 Negroes There seems to be an accounting for many years of payments that seem to be for the maintenance of land, farm and support of the faimily. In 1813, the following petition is filed: To John Simkins, Ordinary, .. the undersigned being members of the estate of Solomon Pope decese by leave to state that by the will of Solomohn Pope all the negroes and stock . to be equally divided - that young children are now of age and __ has been made for the division - That the household and kitchen furniture, and plantation Tools __ other small articles of a perishable nature were no disposed of by the will but have been kept __ till the present time to wait the coming of age of the youngest child. .. the partitoners therefore prays that your Honor. will grant him an order of Sale for the protion of the __ property of said estate above _________ . 3 Nov, 1813 John Pope, Exer. COMMENTS: Note the listing of the children. I could not tell if there were commas in between some of the names, and there was a place on the microfilm that was black and I could not tell what names might be there. From a DAR records at the Camden Archives children of Solomon Pope and his wife Susannah Dawkins were given. [Problem - wife was not named in his will, but the info. I have from the DAR records has her death date AFTER his??? Names of most of the children are now connected thru the will, but there were some names in a blacked out area that I could not read. Therefore, I have not yet verified Henry or Patience as children of Solomon. The Original will in Edgefield may be readable, but the microfilm was not. I have tenatively created this family grouping. Any proof of this is welcome, as is proof of error.
